"Apple has started promoting a new, overlapping feature for Maps in iOS 6: Flyover."

Isn't that what Microsoft has been providing for years with their "Birdseye View" ? (Bing maps)

I didn't read anything but looking at the pictures, I don't see anything that isn't already available? Google Earth has 3d buildings....they should sue Apple!

Nice for Mac owners. But the GPS features in the 4S iPhone suck. They should have spent some money on that instead. I don't care if Apple did sue Samsung. Samsung had it on Apple from the get go GPS wise. IMHO

What's wrong with the 4S GPS? My Samsung Captivate GPS is horrible (known for this model) compared to the Apple 3GS it replaced. Family's Galaxy Skyrocket GPS rocks.

It would be nice if it could talk for one thing.

JavaBrewer 08-30-2012 03:56 PM

Ahh - that's an OS thing. Android gives that feature away for free - though I hear there are a couple free iOS apps that are free that do voice guided navigation.

Yeah, it should talk, and maps should be cached/downloaded so they can be used when there's no data connection, like out of the country. I also hate how the routing blue lines obscure the hwy numbers. Drives me crazy. Looking forward to better map implentation!

Tom Tom has this feature. It's very expensive (though less expensive than a stand-alone hand-held unit) but it's an absolute POS from a software/user perspective. We got it for our trip to Spain, and it was an absolute nightmare to use, compared to the native maps app, google maps, garmin, etc.

YES! Absolutely, couldn't agree more. Who didn't notice that when they were designing it?

Get Waze for navigation. Free, works great.

The Apple 3D photo mapping is pretty darned cool. Who needs Street View?
