help identify this hub (old homemade trailer)

Someone offered me a trailer that was built for launching rafts & docks. No suspension, just an 8'x10' box with some old car hubs welded on.

One of the bearings is bad enought that I'm afraid to tow it back to our cottage. I originally thought that they were VW rear hubs (drun brakes), but they don't look familiar to me. The wheels are 13" 4x100mm. I'm wondering if they are japanese.

Can anyone identify these, so I can get me some bearings?

thanks!

Geez, all that looks pretty rough. Hope you don't have any serious uses for this stuff in mind. That being said, pull the bearings and carry them to a parts house. There should be part numbers visible or if not, the parts guy can mic them for you and fix you up.

Those look like VW Rabbit hubs and wheels,
BUT pop the cap and nut off ,
remove the washer,
then put the nut back on,
with a quick pull remove the hub this will neatly remove the inner bearing and seal ,
drive out the outer races and your off to match up the seal and bearings

4lug solid rear makes me think GM. Try 80's chevrolet cavalier specs to see how the rear wheel bearing matches.

thanks for the tips. I was hoping to NOT have to make an extra visit, but looks like I'll have to go pop one of the bearings and try to match it.

Yes, trailer is free. It'll just be used to launch the docks at the cottage. 200 feet, round trip, twice a year. I was going to build one just like this, so coming across it was a real bonus

My thoughts exactly. Those drums look like they are from an early cavalier . Thank goodness, I have not seen one of those in while, but if memory serves me, they should have a sealed type bearing . Good luck Jake!

Only thing is the lack of backing plate and any hardware seriously makes it difficult. It sure seems like a car axle not a trailer axle. If I were you I'd get a 5 lug proper trailer axle.

took the hubs to the FLAPS, and the guy just looked at it and said "mid 80's K Car", got the parts and they were a perfect match!
