1981 Les Paul Deluxe, to route or not to route?

Long story short, got a offered a deal on a 1981 cherry sunburst Les Paul I couldnt pass up. Its in great shape, weighs a ton, perfect neck, but it's a deluxe model with Dimarzio humbucking P90s. Not the biggest fan on those and would like to use some of Wolfe's pickups or some Burstbuckers.

Realistically, does anyone ever see a Deluxe ever appreciating to the point where I'm gonna regret routing it for the sound and look of a Standard? This one isnt perfect, got a few nicks and chips. Finish is worn off the neck. Serious mojo guitar, but still plays awesome.

Any input?

Do you actually have to change anything to fit different pickups? If you don't have to, don't.

But then again, one time I rode in this 1972 911T with a 3.2, and . . . . . . jeezus.

Yes, the guitar is cut for P90s. Id have to route out the cavities.

I'd stick with P90s, why be like everyone else? Maybe you can get a hot-rodded set. There are tons of options out there.

Unless you're sure you'll keep it forever, don't route.

BTW, I'm listing my LP Classic for sale soon.

Wolfe makes P90s. I hear they're pretty mean. ;) :D

Give me a call. P-90's are my favorites, and I can make that thing rawk. A good P-90 should be mean, nasty and raunchy, but still able to clean up and be sweet when you want.
Much like a $2 wh*re, without the crack addiction :D
