Night Photography
I worked in Fargo, NoDak on Thursday. After work I drove up to Argyle, MN to do some night photography. I Spent a few hours at Old Mill state park Thursday night. Some of the darkest skies I've ever seen! What a blast. Had the entire park to myself. Leaving there at midnight to make it to work by 6AM meant I was walking dead on Friday. These are some of the best night landscape images I have ever shot. Though there is plenty of room for improvement. Thought I would share with you guys.

Nicely done...I'd love to see what the night sky looked like a hundred years ago.

It is humbling and inspiring to be a part of all that.
Thanks, Kyle! I've never seen a night sky quite like that. When I go north toward Canada at night, it's similar, but the level of detail and sheer immensity that you captured is overwhelming... _ |

What was the light source that illuminated the building and the trees?

Very nice.
I've looked into modding some usb webcams to do long exposure night photo stuff for our planetarium at work...

fun stuff to play with, I've been doing a ton of Time Lapse with my GoPro2, I still need to set up a VIMEO account.
Anyone can take a picture, but to be a photographer, well, that takes more effort and imagination than 90% of the public that leave their cameras on full "auto".

I had some kids at my cottage this summer. They were amazed at what you can see when there's no background light.
The sky is truly spectacular when you can see it properly.

Not too late to enter Canon's photo contest... the last category is "Discovery." Your photos would seem at home there.

one of the greatest honors of my life was to take several photography courses with a man named Steve Harper. he taught a course called Environmental photography, and a course called night photography. google his night stuff..simply amazing.
i did kickass in the Enviro class..and "okay" in the night class. i won awards in the enviro class. anyways, first friggen class he handed out a sheet with typical exposures for nightwork..he said, "dont lose this ever..in the future you will want to take a night photo..and you wont remember how." he was right..of course i lost it. and of course i wanted to take a few pics. i'm not sure the man is still alive. or i would call him for a copy. haha. he lived by me. great stuff Kyle! surprised the stars didnt move on you....but your exposures were not long. we had 45 min exposures back then!
