Mac iCloud ... not real happy with it

I switched to 'the cloud' a few months ago and so far see no benefit for me. Now my iCloud mail is constantly off line and won't accept my password. I tried to change password but in the sequence you have to enter your birth date....it told me that was wrong.. ?

Anyone else having a problem with the cloud? I've read some stuff on Google about it being hacked to death. Any ideas for me ?

My Mac guy installed this system a few months ago...Lion, I think...but I'd rather go back to Snow Leopard which on my wife's laptop and it works fine.

Subscribed. I have been looking into cloud back up.

I wish I had not...Google 'Mac iCloud' and read the negatives before you make the move...

I don't buy into this cloud BS either. My internet connection is down a hell of lot more often than my USB backup HDs are. And I trust Apple, Google, etc. with my personal stuff about as far as I can throw their CIOs.

On the other hand, it sounds like iCloud security is pretty good...even you can't get into your account! :(

I use dropbox and Amazon cloud and not a problem.

Heard so many issues with the Apple version that I am not getting near it anytime soon...

Just found an article that 'the cloud' has been down for two days. Apple is working on it:rolleyes:

iCloud - like .mac and mobile me before it - always seems to have significant trouble right before a big Apple event. It usually passes when the store/software, etc., is back up and open after the show. My mail has been messed up since yesterday, and I'd expect it to be fixed by tomorrow (iPhone 5 intro is today).

Interesting.... Thanks for that info.. SmileWavy

Try Amazon Cloud or Dropbox. Both are free and both are working .... every-day.

When their power goes out your cloud disappears. Ask me how I know.

I love most things Apple does but their mail is a joke. MS is much superior IMO.

Amazon is right here in the neighborhood. Their hardware is crazy. Massive, redundant data centers.

I use three different "clouds" for content - dropbox, google drive and icloud. All of them have strengths and weaknesses depending on what you want to do.

And all are light years more secure than doing backups to portable drives and DVDs. Configure the service to sync files to the cloud while keeping core files available locally for when you're offline.

My MacBook Pro is still running Snow Leopard - sounds like I made a good call there.

I've started looking into cloud storage for backup and sync. Anyone use SugarSync and its Blackberry app? How about Skydrive?

Thanks,
Vin

And neither make you agree to terms basically saying they own your data - all of it.

I did the same, but only because (apparrently) Lion deletes all PowerPC compatibility. Without telling you it's going to.

Snow Leopard will be my last Mac OS version.

Drdogface 09-13-2012 06:20 AM

Back on today but I still don't like Lion.

I made the mistake of going to the cloud when my wife and I got our new iPhones about a year ago. Instantly my email account, which I use through MSOutlook, stopped working. Outlook still works, but only with the Apple .me email address that you're assigned when you go to the cloud. I'd undo the whole thing in a heartbeat if I knew how to do so.

Totally agree. I have an I-pad through work, only apple product I will use, and saw their agreements and that alone made me positive that I will never have an I-phone.

The Samgsung works great, bigger screen, you can remove the battery when low and pop another one in and its not an Apple. Works for me...
