She got the vacuum back from the repair shop on Tuesday (two days ago). Three week turnaround, awesome. I guess since she doesn't vacuum more than once every three weeks it doesn't matter. ;)

They replaced the whole side frame, and the reason it took so long is that (they claim) this isn't a frequently replaced part.

Haven't fired it up yet, since our regular cleaning crew was just here anyway.

I'm thinking it might make a nice target for the .50 BMG at 800 yds.

My wife recently bought a Dyson canister style vacuum. It's a horribly gratuitous design and not readily identifiable as a vacuum cleaner at all. Looks more like a cheap preschooler's toy spaceship. I'm not brave enough to ask what she paid for it.
So after studying it for several minutes just to figure out how to turn it on, I used it to vacuum the carpet in my home office. It didn't work. Not at all. It wouldn't pick up anything It sounds like a jet engine and ear protection would probably be a good idea. I figured it must need emptying or there's some weird button that needs to be pushed for carpet use. Nope. The machine is working as intended, it just won't clean carpet. I finally gave up and used my $39 Home Depot/Rigid shop vac - worked perfectly.
The canister vacs are, I believe, primarily intended for hard floors and thin carpet unless you got one with a powered brush in the head.

My "old" Sears Canister worked great for years, but my wife did not like it. I bought her the Dyson upright, but not the ball. It actually works very well on carpets.

Well, we ditched the Dyson upright and went for the drag-along-behind-you Miele. Night and day difference.

I purchased one several years ago. Gave it to my daughter. She seems to like it.

Our canister unit has a powered brush head, still doesn't work right. Beyond that, I can't get past the design and cheap plastic materials! It deserves a notation in an Industrial Design text book as the perfect example of how not to design a household appliance. Who would buy one of these things??? Oh yeah, my wife ;)
