Porsche Police Cars

Believe it or not, this is not a mock up or photoshop.

NSW State Police in Sydney Australia have just taken delivery of a Panamera to be used for community liason, public relations etc. The car is on loan from Porsche Cars Australia for 6 months with a further 6 months on offer if the programme is a success.

I wonder how one measures the "success" of a . . . . car . . . . used for . . . . "public relations."

My guess is that the programme will be determined a 'success' if the chief's wife wants to continue driving the car around.

And whoever came up with using a $100k of taxpayer money to buy a police car for PR purposes is not someone you want working in PR.

Car's worth a lot more than that down here - no taxpayer money involved - it's on loan to the Police.

Car is a loaner, not a purchase.

I don't know if it qualifies as a 'police car' but many would be surprised how many undercover in other law enforcement use Porsche's. At one time I had the chance to acquire a grey market, schwarz 930, legite while dealing with F.I. who clearly identified themselves. Could have had it well under market but at the time, with the fuzzy DOT / EPA, insurance for grey market and the car background, to me wasn't worth the hassle. Also sold a few Porsche's and Audi for covert work. Recall one being totaled for taking out its undercarriage while driving over a rough road and high manhole.

On the other side of the law, we had some VERY scrupulous Porsche buyers.... some changing cars often as their underwear. No further comments but man those were the days.

Ok, but from a PR standpoint, no one else will know that. All I'll think as a motorist is that the cops need to raise revenue to cover that insanely expensive Porsche and that all subsequent stops and fines will be because of that.

Back in the day I had the Maestro Harry Pellow build me his best creation for the 356. I think he had a 356 Polizei for sale and one in his collection. All kinds of cool features. I think he wanted 20K in 95 which would be a bargain today since it was the real thing. Of course Speedsters were less than 40. I even had a shot a a totally restored Speedster in 83 for 25k. It was perfect. But I just had to have a 930 first. Boo hoo.
