Which is the most expensive car?

Do you have any idea which one is the most expensive car in the world???

masraum 09-24-2012 02:01 AM

cost when new or cost today as a collectible?

production or 1 off customs?

sc_rufctr 09-24-2012 02:01 AM

No idea but the Bugatti Veyron would have to be in the top five.

Classics? ... Ferrari 250 GTO ... I've heard rumours of them changing hands recently for more than $30,000,000

Imagine what you could do with $30,000,000.

Including maintenance, an early 944 has got to be right up there.

Second only to the 928.

It makes a BIG difference if you are talking about limited series production cars or one-offs.

It also makes a difference if you are talking about a specific car model or a specific serial number car.

However, in general, among pre-WW2 cars the Bugatti Type 41 "Royale" is up there. 6 of these were built (all unique), with some going for as high as a reported $20M at auction.

A Bugatti Type 57SC "Atlantic" went for $30-40M in 2010.

Among post WW2 performance cars: I can't imagine what Ford GT40P serial number 1075 would go for if it ever got on the market.

Modern cars: The one-off Ferrari 612 P4/5 (which I actually saw on the road, photographed, and posted about on this forum) reportedly cost the owner $4M.

The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport in various special edition versions costs reportedly cost around $3.4M.

High-end collector cars regularly sell for more than a Bugatti Veyron:

Btw, I really can't wrap my brain around paying aircraft (even business jet $) prices for a single car. For a LOT less I could put together my dream collection of pristine classic muscle, sports, and luxury cars.

Although never valued by the market via a sale, the first Rolls Royce Silver Ghost is unrestored, owned by the factory now and insured for somewhere between $40-50 million.

For total cost including maintenance, no one beats older Brit cars, say an early XK-E, or maybe even a (shudder) TR7. Not that each repair was so expensive (although repairs on old Jags add up quick), but it would be continually under repair until every part on the car was replaced several times over.

This one is a mere 1.1 mil.

It's a man-bag.

And ST's taste in vehicles is pretty suspect. This is his trike, that he probably spent CGT $$ for:

To his credit, he also has a nice 997 turbo S cab.

I read some speculation that one of the Mercedes Museums Silver Arrows would probably set all kinds of records if these were ever to come to market. As might the Moss/Jenkins Mille Miglia winning SLR (#722). The sky is the limit on some of those cars.

No spam but it was designed to hold two austronauts a payload of an 490 kg that is a 1/2 of a TON. And one thing for sure they did not have to worry about rain! :D:D
