First time for everything

I bought new sheets for my bed today. They're nice... 100% US grown cotton, 550 thread count with a slight satin finish.
But I just realised something. I'm 47 and that was the first time I've ever bought sheets in my life.

First my mother bought my sheets then my ex wife... My ex walked out leaving the sheets for the bed (and not much else )

Anyways... It may not seem like a big deal but it is for me. What was I doing all of those years? Maybe is should have been more involved in the details of my life.
(My GF just rolled her eyes. She's reading this over my shoulder)

Edit: Oops... I've asked the mods to move this to "off topics"

Never mind. The old sheets will make great rags for working on your PORSCHE. See. Now we're back on topic. :D

sc_rufctr 09-24-2012 04:59 AM

That's what I'm planning to do. ;)

You can also use your old sheets to lay on if you're underneath the car. Or if your back is all greasy, dirty you can use the old sheets to cover the driver seat if you need to move the car.

WOW, you are one spoiled MF!

I've got you beat: I'm 60 and I've NEVER bought sheets, nor am I planning to. :)

My mom gives me sheets for Christmas some years. I must have 3 packages that have never bee opened.

Old sheets are also good for mopping up fluids that spill from your car if you are as sloppy and uncoordinated as I am. :)

What size? :)

just bought new sheets on saturday..

winter is coming, so i got Flannel. i love high thread count in the winter..nothing like sliding into a clean smooth cold bed..but my wife hates the chill..flannel makes life easier.

next set? get Egyptian cotton sheets. supposedly better. (lack of rain in the region)

There are limits to first time experiences. I have NEVER changed a diaper. I ain't gonna ever try.

I have purchased sheets back when I was single. Now I am not qualified to buy sheets that match the decor. I work hard on staying unqualified to match sheets to decor.

My sheets are 1600 thread count. They are awesome.

Man, you gotta get out more. :) My GF informed me that not only do they come in different sizes, they also come in colors (I want camo) and the new ones are made so they hug the mattress: fitded, or something like that.

So no more military corners! :D

Do not buy silk sheets. They are far to "slippery" to gain proper "leverage". Satin for the same reason...

Other end of that spectrum - don't buy flannel if you wear anything to bed. You really don't want to roll over and have your jammies stay behind. My parents kept the house at 64F in the winter when I was a kid and I've lived that nightmare. Now I keep a warm body nearby and have no such problems...

Remember - smooth is nice and all of that but it's actually hotter to sleep in in the summer than coarser thread counts.

I too bought sheets a few weeks ago for the first time. My exwife also did all of that type of shopping. I figured I had been using the same camo sheets for long enough it was time for something a little fancier.

I actually got all new everything, boy does the $$ add up quick on that stuff!

High thread count sheets are the bomb. I sleep to hot for flannel sheets, maybe if I lived in Montana or something.

red-beard 09-24-2012 07:42 PM

After splitting with my ex-wife, I ended up buying some 300 count sheet at a Wholesale Club. The "crazy" girlfriend noted them and said I had better sheets than she did!
