The question to ask yourself: Would you go if you had to pay out of your own pocket?
I did & after 3-4 different attempts with different chiros over 10 years, I came to the conclusion that they are bogus. Everybody I know that goes on a regular basis has it paid by insurance. Ian |

but not to discount the effects of nerve damage: my dog has an eye problem caused by an ear infection that affected the nerve to the eye ... part of the sympathetic/para-sym. "push me/pull you" system .. who designed this thang anyways?? |
I go to one occasionally, if I tweak something, and pay out-of-pocket. My wife goes to her chiro, who I think is a quack, and also pays out-of-pocket.

I go to a holistic chirpractor. I have borderline chronic issues - I usually twist myself wrong every couple of months and need her to fix me. Once she was out of town and I went to a substitute she recommended. The guy explained in detail to me the 'science' of it and it was very mechanical. Realign things so that they stop pinching the nerves in between (what I was suffering from badly at the time). He made some adjustments and I was able to stand up afterwards. I was still sore for a few days of course but I could stand when I couldn't before.
Do I have to go in regularly to keep myself 'tuned' No. That is crap. If you take care of yourself I don't think you should have to go but as people get older it is helpful like a massage is helpful. I call her my 'witch doctor' and I pay cash every time and am happy I have her. She sells herbs and spices too of course. |

Clinch Eastwood, my pet, 6' long, Rosy Boa was never the same after I took him to a pet chiro. Once a perfectly healthy constrictor with a minor kink in his right shoulder, Clinch now just lays around, miserable, stretched out straight as an arrow and I keep tripping over him. :( |
I kinda have a negative opinion when it comes to Chiropractors. Years ago when I worked the casualty claims desk for Hanover Insurance, the Chiro's I encountered "treating", the uninsured plaintiff's ( who were, most of the time, at fault for the subject accident but were scamming the system, claiming subjective soft tissue injuries ) were nothing more than pure crooks.
I'm sure there are some good ones out there but I'm not interested in seeing one. Steve 73 911T MFI Coupe, Aubergine |
I tried it for several months after crashing my dirt bike into a tree. No changes so I stopped. Felt like a rip off.

Totally unethical money-sucking scum. Most of them increase their business by practicing medicine without a medical license, which is illegal, and many of them were prosecuted by legal authorities and put out of business until the 1980s, when the prosecutions basically stopped for some reason.
My girlfriend is a massage practitioner (LMP) and works for two of them. She gets no health benefits. Both chiros schedule her to work 18 hours per week, but then they demand that she work on-call also, so she ends up working 25 hours per week for each of them, on average. She says the industry standard is that chiros do not give any health benefits to their employees. The word "duplicitous" comes to mind... _ |

I do not go often but when needed they sure help me. |
Ask your s.o. to grab your ankles and pull evenly.
Same with wrists. Or attach a couple of eye bolts in the walls, couple of straps, cables, pulleys, and a come-along. :D |

Precisely my experience....to a "T"!!!!!! JA |
There was a thread like this some years ago. I posted a fairly lengthy reply. Basically I had a pinched nerve with numbness & pain from my neck through the left arm to the ends of my fingers. Went to a chiro who fished me into prepaying for a number of visits & assured me he could solve the problem. On the last visit, I told him it was still the same. He "adjusted" me & let me walk. Never again.

After my adjustments, about two months worth, I was pain free, and my allergies were absolutely lessened. However, I have been severely allergic to horses and cats all my life, and that has not changed one bit. Day to day symptoms during allergy season were greatly reduced, as were asthma like symptoms . But I absolutely had a spinal misalignment. Finding out if you have food allergies, and giving up foods that you have allergies to would make a more profound difference in your allergies IMO. Giving up milk had a tremendous effect on my allergies. Today, I only have symptoms a few weeks of the year, as opposed to months. I still have to avoid cats and horses though, and could become very ill if I tried to have an indoor cat. |
There are quacks in EVERY profession. A good Chiropractor will know their limitations and they will not sound like a smoke and mirrors salesperson. They will also not touch a person who could be harmed by procedures or a person who has zero need of procedures. All professions will have people like this.
I know of a Dr in Texas who lost their license in two other states because their clients died under their care, and at their giving the wrong drugs out. Not sure how many may have died under their "care" in Texas. I know of a vet who used to put down thier client's animals (dogs and cats) when the clients changed their furniture scheme. The existing animal did not match the new color scheme so they had to go. Just an example of professional jerks. |
The 80/20 rule applies as someone said upthread.
After a string of useless tits, I found a chiropractor a few years ago who is solid gold. The man has magic fingers. I have literally crawled into his practise a few times and he has had me out in 20 minutes skipping around like Gene Kelley. You need to find the right one. |
Ahhhh, got to love all these comments about us Chiropractors but as some of you have pointed out NOT ALL Chiropractors are created equal.
Myself being a Chiro for over 30 yrs now, it takes me about 30 seconds asking questions to know if this guy is a quack or a real deal. Not that I let anyone adjust me, in fact most are quacks. Then again acupuncture, dentists, mds and anyone else you want ot throw in the pile IMHO are quacks also. The lifespam of a quack in a given spot is about 3-6 yrs max, a person with the golden gift to gab and since they are the new kid on the block, everyone wants to try them out. After 3-6 yrs the gig is up, they sell the practice to another chump that only sees riches and the person bolts out for another spot to start leaving a practice that has created shambles behind but they have there money in hand, thank you very much. I always tell my patients that are moving out of my area to look for the Chiro with a small office and maybe has one office worker. If you walk into a huge office with multiple office workers and you see that Ferrari parked outside, run as fast as you can. Thou not saying they are not any good but for the most part look out, they see you coming. I am sorry for all of you who have had a bad experience with a quack, there are good Chiro's out there. What makes a good Chiro, well, after 30 yrs, I can say honesty and truthfulness is the corner of the foundation. When a new patient walks in my door, I expect to improve them in 3-5 visits as long as they are somewhat active lifestyle, if you don't use it you will lose it. I don't take x-rays anymore cuz if I can't feel it you are in the wrong office plus the med clinic down the street has a nice digital unit. My website is bavarianchiropractic.com, it is in need of updates because my holiday special is still on it, thou I guess now is a good time for a holiday special. 80/20 rule, yes it is real, 80 percent in this world could benefit from adjustments and 20 percent have that perfect spine. |

Tom,
Sure wished that you lived closer! :) Joe A |
I went for a couple of session adjustments. Normally I would steer clear, but the threshold of constant pain told me I better do something. By referel, I was explained my 'homely' female chiropractor was really godly - as in a complete perfect professional. Excellent pre-rap of questions, x-ray, etc.. I'm a believer. However, she further advised to come in at least a few times a year for preventive measure but I've failed to follow her advice.
