Started a new job Thursday!

I have not been employed since I retired from the Navy in Dec 2008. At first I was hitting every job fair and applying everywhere I thought I could find employment. Then when Mrs Crusty had our daughter, we decided I would stay home for a while and raise the baby.
I did some volunteer work for a friend for about 6 months, he opened up an automotive restoration shop, it got me out of the house and kept my hands busy.
I have also been delivering cars and trucks for dealer trades and tent / credit union sales.
About a month ago one of my not so close friends asked if I was available to start work at his company, I met with the owners and got the job. I now manufacture FAA approved flight simulators! I get to play with airplanes, be creative, and work with electronics. Not exactly where I pictured myself four years ago but it is an opportunity!

Congratulations! To the owners for landing you!

Wow, that sounds like a great job. Congrats!

What model Sim's and airplanes?

Sounds like a lot of fun and many people do not realize that the instrument panel in a simulator is not fake, its the very same instruments/panels that are used in the airplane sitting out on the ramp.

You should study for your "Airframe" license in your spare time. You are getting "hands on" and practical time needed for the sign off right now at your job. I used to be an examiner years ago and glad to help if possible. Should be in Carlsbad this weekend...

Congrats I was hoping to meet you for lunch in El Cajon at Donahue's restoration shop.
Are you still working near SEE?

Seahawk 09-29-2012 07:42 AM

That is great...They are lucky to have you, Sandy.

The simulators we make are digital, not real instruments but the multifunction displays, radios and any glass cockpit stuff is the real deal, as are the yokes and pedals.
We are gearing up to do a handful of DA40 sims, they are not full motion, They are mainly for IFR training. Civic Helicopter has one of our sims.

@ ted, I am working near Palomar, I am pretty happy I am not getting beat up by those big motorhomes, trailers and muscle cars anymore.

Next time we get to Carlsbad (also known as Palomar Airport) will give a shout...
