WTH?!! Thieves stole our fleet truck tires.

Seriously. Who the heck steals tires from commercial trucks?

Our drivers came in this morning to find the outside dual tires on 5 of our rigs missing. Not the wheels and tires, just the tires. They cut the valve stems and removed the tires from the rims.

It took 7 hours for the repair facility to send a truck with replacement tires and get them mounted. We paid our drivers to sit on their behinds for that entire time and then they had to go out and play catch up with the clients they could get before they closed.

We made a police report but I doubt we'll ever find out who it was.

...and how was your Monday?

How in the world did the thieves debead tires!? Sorry to hear about the loss, friend. Would insurance cover this type of event possibly?

Insurance will cover it but I am still in disbelief that it happened. I want to see the camera footage to see how they did it and how long it took, just out of curiosity. It's not like you are going to throw 10 semi-sized tires in your backseat.

Two of these

one of these

and a spray bottle of tire lube
Once the air is out probably take less than 5 minutes to dismount one.
I've got an alibi in case your wondering

If you're allowed to post it we would love to see that video...I am still baffled...taking off 8-10 lug nuts and sliding a wheel off is so much easier. I would assume you could deflate the tire and pull the wheel off without a jack? This is so bizarre!

block them up and let the air out
instant free wheel no jack needed

if they are split rims [lots of big-un's are]
then just do the rim bolts

I had an outside dual blow out while travelling over the weekend. Got to a truck stop, went in and asked for a tire service company. They called one, $150 fee on a Sunday. Yes, I have a spare, but bring one just in case.

They got there (45 minutes) and when changing the outer, discovered the inner had been damaged as well. These two guys were in an F150 with a compressor and a toolbox. They had exactly the tools shown above and some monkey butt lube. Had the carcass off and new tire remounted in 15 minutes. I got home and the spare held.

I was amazed. Times are tough out there. I'm ready to vote for change....

I would hazard a guess that they stold just the tires because it would be quicker than pulling the outside dual off using just mechanical tools. The wheels are fastened with 10 bolts on a standard truck wheel torqued to around 400 pounds for each fastener. They probably did not bring an impact wrench and an air compressor, so that would mean breaking them loose by hand.

It might have just been faster to deflate the tire and pull it off the wheel.

Or maybe they just forgot to bring a big enough socket for the fasteners.

Times are tough and there are lots of lax securitt targets out there. Our lives depend a lot on trust which makes for better business. Hope we all don't have to use our homeland airport security model to protect our family and property.

A nearby orchard business lost so many mechanical parts etc that a half mile of chainlink was put up around the huller/equipment yard - no small expense. This is in the middle of an orchard off a fairly rural road - both good and bad - once you are discovered as a target it is bad.

This. Plus the impact driver to remove these is larger, louder, and heavier than a gatling gun.

Sorry for your loss.
There was a bunch of delivery truck cats stolen around this area a few years back.

The thieves must have used bolt cutters or some similar tool on the valve stems as the ones I found on the ground were pinched off not cleanly cut.

I met with our security system provider today and discussed upgrading our system to include more perimeter coverage.

I'm thinking a complete perimeter 8 foot fence and a remote gate with swipe card access would be nice.

The pursestrings are not something I control but this incident has definitely aroused the ire of our corporate security folk. I don't think we will have much problem upgrading the facility.

Might be worth taking inventory of the rest. They might come back, if it works once...

The MF'ers hit us again over the weekend!!!

They got 6 tires as they left 2 tires half dismounted on different trucks.

As well, they left 2 rims on the ground that the police now have as evidence. The officer thinks that they were taking the tires off our trucks and mounting them on bare rims right on the property.

This made for a wonderful Monday.

Oh that sucks. Not just once, but twice!

Time to upgrade to an electric fence.

That sucks, maybe an armed guard is required for a few weeks. At least if they come calling, he can get a good look at them and any getaway vehicles etc.

Video security would be a good backup for this.

Or you need to put up some of these.

Corporate BS, in my opinion. I can't really say much more than that.

Personally, I think there is a connection between someone who knows our operation and the thefts. I'm not paid to figure that out but I have some thoughts that I plan to share with the police.
