2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S (991) does 7:37.9 around Nurburgring (video)

That's faster than a 997TT..... and right there with the Corvette ZR-1, Nissan GT-R, and Ferrari 458

He'd still be a slo Dave.

I want one (991 S).

That's is an insanely fast NA six...

The car goes so fast that it makes the track look like a video game.

It seriously amazes me how Porsche, (and GM for that matter), can continue to expand the performance envelope on street cars. Cars that are way more than pleasant to drive on the street, in fact.

A car is nothing more than a rolling metal box on springs, the basic invention hasn't changed all that much in 100 years and the laws of physics certainly haven't changed.

When I say, "basic invention", I mean just that. The level of continuous refinement is mind-blowing and I can't believe that they're still able to improve it to this degree. I thought that they performed real well in the '90s, (Porsches). They were slugs compared to now.

Without having to research it on my phone, how does the Nurburgring lap time compare with the latest Ferrari F-458?

Meanwhile, the cars get easier and safer to drive fast but their upper limits get further and further away from the typical owner/driver. Which can create a false sense of security and be deadly.

The car seemed pretty tame inside too that whole time.

So I wonder what the 991 turbo and various GT cars will be like...

We see that at the track, cars doing the work, owners think they are great drivers..

To be completely fair, neither the 997TT or the ZR-1 are the dedicated track weapons of their respective line-ups. Those would be the GT-2 or GT-3 in RS package or the Z06. I'm imagining that those are quicker around the the 'ring.

Still, the 991 S is damn impressive. I want one. A hot blond pulled up to the diner in a black on black coupe the other night, it had the same curb appeal as every other new 911 over the years.

You do realize that the speedo is in kph, right?

Otherwise, the car would be doing 265 mph in the end of the video.

I did do a lap in the Z4 in the 9 minute rage, with ballast.

Although fast, the flappy paddle gearbox removes so much from the satisfaction of driving a car like this.

Let's see Bubbles drive the car with a standard gearbox.

Speedy
