My new knife arrived yesterday..(pics)

Victorinox Damascus Limited Edition 2012
I've always loved Victorinox knives and when I saw this one I had to have it! None were allocated to New Zealand so I had to order it out of Austria
Only 5000 available worldwide...enjoy

US$400? That is Wow!

I "only" paid EUR220 from www.pizzini.at ; Messer, knives, Scheren, scissors,....

That works out to be about US$275! Still a lot of money for a pocket knife I agree but Victorinox have never let me down in over 30 years of using them and this one seemed like the ultimate Victorinox pocket knife to me.

Mark,

A lady friend of mine gave me a William Henry knife a while back. Its an absolute work of art and I almost hate to carry it for fear of losing it. That said... it sure looks and feels wonderful in your hand!

Swiss Army knifes are all I carry in the field. I can break down any size animal with them and they hold their edge very well after I sharpen them in my electric machine. I would love to have a pretty one like that but fear of losing it keeps me with the $40 models.

What is the extension and the hole atop the blade for? Is this available without that feature (the standard looking swiss army knife blade?)

Cheers,

G

That hole is for one handed opening of the blade. You hold the knife in your palm and use your thumb to extend the blade. This damascus blade was only available with that style of blade.

I have both styles of Victorinox locking blades and can't say I favour one over the other - comes down to looks I suppose

Well, I realize a lot of guys want to open a knife one-handed for various reasons. To me that protrusion detracts from a clean look, but I understand why it is there. By the time I catch up with my prey, it is dead, so I have time to open that blade with both hands.

Somewhat like this one. It was a limited run of 500 and not on their website anymore. It does have a few jewels on it but for that price it should!
