BMW recall
I got an email a few weeks ago about a recall for the PCV valve heater. They gave 3 days and times to bring it in and have the work done free of charge. I think it shorts out and can cause a fire. My car is an '07 with 252K miles.
Drove to the dealership this morning, they said it would take a few hours, they called an Uber for me to go to work. Work done, they called an Uber for me to bring me back. Work was done, car washed, interior vacuumed and detailed. Cleanest it's been all year. All for free. They of course went through the car and listed work it needs, all of which I knew and have parts on the shelf for. Check these prices out! Leaking rear shock, replace as a pair, $2548.71 That is the biggest shocker on the list. I've done it in the past, it's 2 hours for both sides, my special Sachs were $200 for the pair I think. Rear trunk tailight assembly, $$719.34 I have one coming, original factory mfg, it was $145 shipped from FCP, it should take 10 minutes being careful to put in. 'Front fog light assembly, $504.14 I broke some tabs getting it out when doing headlight bulbs, they are $30 new and again 10 minute to put in There's a few more things like an oil change for $221, which I did 10o miles ago with Liqui Moly and that was about $100 shipped Two takeaways: Can't believe I was treated like a new 7 series owner for a recall for a 17 year old car Can't believe anyone has their out of warrantee BMW serviced by a dealer

I bet if you'd had all that work done, then asked them what they'd give you for it on a trade in they would have offered you at least $3000.

Dang that is crazy.
My dad needed a new hood badge for his '01 330ci, he has a newer X5 so takes them both to the dealer. Fortunately the older one never gets driven so its for an annual oil change. Needless to say I had him order the new badge from Pelican and I installed it last week when I was in VA. |

LOL! The car has real value on the market and I expect it to be come a cult classic. Because it has no rust, I will literally keep this car forever. At some point the motor may need to be rebuilt. Just put another one in and if I can get 280 hp out of a rebuild, I'll go in that direction.

What’s the hourly rate?
Local independents are $180 a hour

The $2548 for rear shocks is not bad as long as they are installing Ohlins. Still a little high just for a pair.

^^^ quick google, $4K for front and rear, so agree, Found a street and track package which is what I would want but it was 08-13 which seemed odd, should work for 07 too. If I could get 50 hp inexpensively I'd save for the suspension.

50 HP cheap, thats easy Nitrous oxide. Just make sure you add enough fuel.

I just changed the rear shocks on my 14 F150 $95.
We took Ms Rockets MB R350 In for some engine diagnosis and they came back with $10,000 in miscellaneous repair work needed. Um… no thanks. My 05 330ci Has been very reasonable with parts. FCP is a little more than some folks, but they have a lifetime warranty on everything, including oil. |

I was always treated very well at the local BMW dealership.
Lucky I had extended warranty as I was a frequent visitor!

I think when this engine is on its last legs, some time in the next 100K miles, I will see about putting the 300hp Turbo variant into the car. This has 230. Just 280 would make a huge difference. It's quick and fun, great gearing, but needs a little more, hence the 335 I guess.

Stopped by our local BMW dealership to get some gaskets for my son's '98 328 .... As usual for a summer after-work-from-home day I'm in a ratty tie dye and shorts and crocs (no socks). Got solidly ignored for 10 minutes by the receptionist and 4 sales guys while waiting for the parts counter guy to show up....
Finally called on my phone and while maintaining eye contact with the receptionist/greeter who answered asked "you heard me ask for the parts department, you gonna let them know i'm here or what?" At least they didn't try to upsell me on anything.....
