What a great football player - I remember him on Monday Nite Football and on an appearance on the Tonite Show. Tony Randell was on as well. Karas lit up a cigar and Randell coughing asked him to put it out. Karras replied " we you are 6'-2", 245 lbs, you can do anything you want too".

Famous line "Mongo like candy"

God speed!

Mr. Karras used to hang out at Lindell A.C. (Athletic Club-aka the first sports bar ever) run by a certain Mr. Butsicaris of Italian heritage in Detroit. Alex Karras ended up somehow owning a 1/3 share of this very storied establishment. When Mr. Karras was temporarily suspended from football for certain sporst wagering activities (probably unrelated to his sudden ownership of the AC no doubt) he was ordered to divest his interest in this legendary establishment. Alex, as a professional wrestler during his suspension, promptly engaged in a 'brawl' with the then famous, one-and-only Dick The Bruuuuuiser! Lindell AC was totally trashed in the process of resolving the aforementioned dispute.

IIRC Billy Martin got in a fight with a pitcher on his own team at the AC end ended up with a bunch of stitches.

Anyway, even though Alex Karras was almost blind with nearsightedness and his knees were nearly fused from abuse, he somehow packed several lifetimes into the one alotted him by the Lord.

RIP.

Bizarre. I knew the father on Webster was a former football player, but I never knew he was Mongo!

Funny reference I still remember being about 10 and my dad telling me that Alex Karras was almost blind and couldn't wear glasses playing..
