250+ mph 1992 Audi ur-S4 at Bonneville (video)

I've owned two of these cars, a 1993 S4 and a 1995.5 S6. Amazing cars, and they're standing the test of time.

Here's one, homebuilt with over 1100 horsepower to the wheels (from stock block, stock head 5 cylinder!) that was timed at over 250 mph and estimated peak speeds of 260 mph.

Great videos, the first documents the whole endeavour, the second is just the run

Way cool. That was a sphincter tightening moment right after the chute was pulled and the car wanted to ground loop like an old tail dragger!

On his shift light at the last 18 seconds. I bet they change top gear by a tooth.

There is just something so incredibly cool about a salt flat car. Especially an Audi packing a parachute. Dang!

Salt flats are like bicycle time trials. The race of truth. How fast can you really go?

Wow! Takes some serious h.p. to move air around that brick. Thanks for the vid.

Way back around 86 or 87 I just happened to be at the right time and place, helped Piech remove the carbon hood off the Audi 5000 200mph Talledega record car. It was at the Chi-auto show, McCormick Pl. during preview event, (invite only prior to public show). Was surprised he was there and a small crowd gathered. 2.2 liter 5 banger 20 valve, pushing basically a stock tub. I think it was about 650 hp. The head casting looked sort of rough and probably only a few were poured for prototype.

Times have changed since my first Audi, a 1973 100LS. Ha.
