Very good RELIABLE dvd players!

Hello.
I am looking for a very reliable , somewhat -hi-end DVD player.

It cannot have a fussy feed in.
Would prefer very quick responses to F.F or next Chapter.

NO L.G's please.
It did not make my life good!

Even if you never, ever game (as my wife and I seldom do) the Playstation 3 is one of the most rock solid players we've ever owned. And it does so much more than just play DVDs. Plus it's a Blu-Ray player, internet, Netflix, etc.

Worth every single penny...

Well. The X-box is a very good piece as well.

Unfortunately I had to purchase 2 for my Son.
1, for the immediate fun and second a somewhat back-up.
The first was destroyed by spraying perfume-liquid- inside by his mother.
The second is working fine after ,loud remarks of dcujkfgiryse84w5f4754u0275f0j470f877865678657try!!

I am looking for a dedicated DvD player.
Funny how the 2 cheapies I've had could even turn and play a Frisbee without any recourse!

The PS3 is head and shoulders better than an X-box for all of the extra it does.

Pick up the latest consumer reports. They had all the best dedicated DVD players listed.

You want a somewhat hi-end DVD player, get an OPPO, not sure if you want blueray, but it does those also. Seems to be the gold standard.

If you don't want to spend that much, I have had the best luck with Toshiba.

DVD player is not really needed anymore. Get something like a Uebo (you-bo) it plays every format, every region, no menus to hassle with. Use your DVD player in you computer to rip your remaining discs and get everything new on digital.

UEBO Media Players

I have a newer Sony Blur-ray player and it's junk. Most times when I use the thing it has to connect and update it's software and it's still a mess. Thankfully we're not using it anymore since I use DLNA for everything.

I have an old Panasonic that has been solid for many years, I love it because it has the FF/rewind jog nob... however it is so old it does not do Bluray.

I am going to upgrade it to a Sony because that will get me DVD/Bluray/Internet streaming.

Everyone seems to love OPPO but I have no personal experience.

I like the sound of that but...
Two problems...
1. I go to the link you posted... and people are complaining about firmware problems.
2. I have a pile of DVD's stacked to the ceiling... I'm only just beginging to transfer my CD's to MP3 (huge PITA)... it would take weeks/months to transfer all my DVD's... no thank you very much!

The firmware thing, there is really no getting around that even with a new DVD player. These things are more or less stand alone computers now and they require updates constantly. Anyone with a Sony Blu-Ray can attest to turning it on and getting the "required update" box on the screen from time to time.

What the media players offer you is greater flexibility to handle many formats, including BTW, plugging in an external DVD player to the USB port of the media player. But this will give you an edge on the new media formats when they come out.

As far as ripping your DVD's, yea it's a pain, but I kind of let it run by itself and I'm getting though my collections.

L.G. = Life's Good HOW could you EVER go WRONG with their products?????

I have a Yamaha DVD player. Bought it in the late '90s I think, but who knows. I remember it was something like $75 after something like 60-75% off. Still works great. Even bought a huge big screen (36" Aquos) when my acquired '76 19" Sony Solid State died a horrible death (I helped my Mom pick it out and carried it to the car from Houston Jewelers and Exchange).

More recently we bought a gigantic 42" Aquos for upstairs and needed a second DVD player. I found a Philips for about $25.00 on clearance. It does upscan, DIVX, just tonnes of stuff the Yamaha will not do. I ended up buying three or four of these and giving as gifts. I think they all still work!

You can spend a bunch on a Yamaha (they seem to last) or find a nice Philips and be happy.

Why complain when these things are so tremendously inexpensive? You're delusional if you think a $200 player will be four times more reliable than a $50 player. You're getting features, style, and brand-image, not significantly higher quality.

When they die, don't skip a beat and go pick up another one. It will cost you more in fuel going to the store than buying the player.

You need a Lexicon BD-30.

LG = Lucky Goldstar
I remember in the 80s, Goldstar was such a cheapo-o brand that they even had stuff being sold at the local drug store. The products were basically disposable.

Then one day they magically became a "quality" item by coming up with a new tagline (life's good) and revising their name to just the initials.

I have a Panasonic dvd recorder with a built in hard drive. I use it daily recording. Good unit. I paid close to $1000 in 2004.

I understand somewhat on your expensive purchase and THEN depreciation.

I purchased a 70 inch MITSUBISHI rear projector TV around 1995.

The price was $6700.00
I was so into electronics I knew exactly what I was buying.

So it's at the house. The house I got kicked out of.
5.5 years later, the house is sold. I get back into the house and go downstairs.
I sit down on the couch and fire up the triple -c.r.t's.

I sit there for a bit and think. I can get a TV today for $1200 bucks that has a better picture by far. I felt so burnt! But-it's about the times and of course, then and as now the price for size increases exponentially.
