My sons' pediatrician was just arrested for sexually assaulting a 16 yr old boy

Mayo Clinic Pediatrician Arrested, Accused Of Molestation « CBS Minnesota

I have two sons, 14 and 16. This doctor has been their pediatrician for over a decade, seeing them for everything from routine check-ups, sports physicals, and any issues that come up. They say nothing has happened, but want to talk to their counselor about how to handle the whole ordeal.

The 16 year old boy that reported him has been his patient his whole life as well, and this particular incident happened during a sports physical at back-to-school time this year. It's very likely that we know the boy, as he's in my oldest son's grade and we've been heavily involved in area sports for years.

I'm just sick about this......

My daughters orthodontist was a perv as well. He got charged and the big house is where he is practicing now. Very unsettling for your kids, glad to hear your son was not a victim.

Ugh, that's sickening. I'm glad my kids' doctor visits are chaperoned.

My nephew's karate teacher just got sent up for molesting one of his (female) students. If anybody deserves burning at the stake, it's guys like that.

This is a perfect opportunity to educate, as you no doubt understand.

Nearly all feel the same way because the person assaulting them is a person in a position of respect and power.

As many stories like this as I read or hear about, I still find it hard to believe that there are people out there who would victimize children. Really sad. Sorry to hear.

Certainly not a light penalty he faces, however:

Van De Loo has been charged with one count of second-degree sexual assault by employee of entity and one count of exposing genitals or pubic area. If convicted, he could face a maximum of $110,000 and/or a maximum of 43 years in prison.

Most all M.D.s are such consumate professionals that this really is a bit shocking. My GP is a black lady somewhere near my age. I never think twice about her, or any other doctor I've seen, checking out my private regions if it's part of an exam. I really don't think that normal Dr.s see their patients in a sexual way.

Once again, really sad.
