Whaaaaaatt?

So today I get a notice in the mail from the PA turnpike commission telling me I ran an EZ pass exit. I had no idea I had done this. No toll booth no nothing. All of a sudden I was on 79 north and still had a turnpike ticket. Not knowing really what I missed or how I did it I was kind of expecting this but I saw nothing like a toll booth anywhere. They are charging me $60.50. for the violation. I should charge them for violation! I'm not gonna press it though I'm gonna pay it and STFU. I had my stroke last year and they could take my license away for that even though I have no ill effects. They could use it against me though if I fight them as they are required by law here to report stroke victims to penndot. What a pisser! I just had to come here to scream..sorry...I feel better now...

Dave did you maybe go through the express lanes? The same thing happened to me once. I think that's what I did.

Baz 10-12-2012 04:54 PM

Couple months ago I went through an unattended toll booth which required coins - all I had was bills. What was I supposed to do? pretty lame setup if you ask me. You'd think they would have a change machine like they do at car washes...

Haven't heard from anyone yet....if I do I will give them a piece of my mind - just for you David! :)

I must have. There is so much construction around that area and I really don't know my way around the burgh very well. I really just found myself off the pike and still had a ticket. What would you do in that situation? I don't know ..feeling like a crazy old man right now..

dan88911 10-12-2012 05:22 PM

Yeah, we have issues like that in my city. To fight it you got to take a day off work go downtown wait your turn etc.
Sometimes you feel like you being extorted.

targa911S 10-12-2012 05:23 PM

I feel like the old people who can't work the ATM.

Superman 10-12-2012 05:56 PM

You are indeed a crazy old man, but that's okay. Pay the ticket and find something else to get wound up about.

Same thing here. I noticed the coin machine was not ADA compliant. I told them my left arm was in a sling and there was no way to pay as I couldn't open the door to exit the car and pay.

That settled that. And this is true. Not everyone has a left hand that works, temporarily or permanently.

In Oklahoma ( think that's where i was) they have unmaned toll booths. Roll up with an eighteen wheeler and WTF. Good thing i have a stash of coins in my console between the seats. Took me about 10 minutes to feed all the quarters into that SOB.

That is my course of action.

Several years ago my wife got a notice of a fine because she passed through a toll booth without paying. It was accompanied with a photo and the location, which was in the San Francisco area. I called & pointed out we are about 500 miles from S.F., the license plate was close but didn't match, and the car wasn't the same model.

onewhippedpuppy 10-13-2012 03:41 AM

I had that happen to me in LA. To this day I have no clue where the tollbooth was, and I never saw a toll road sign. When I called the state agency that mailed me the ticket, they were "nice" enough to cut the $100 fine in half. She also gave me the gem of "sometimes our toll roads and booths aren't very well marked". WTF, like that's MY fault? Still pisses me off today...

Contrast that to TX. If you're a visitor to TX with non-TX plates and fail to pay a toll, they don't fine or bill you because you're a VISITOR. Apparently TX believes in being polite to visitors.

Our daughter did not have cash on her to pay a toll in California (bay area) and got a ticket for it.

But if I signed up for the EZ pass for her, the ticket was reduced or eliminated (can't remember which). It was about the same price to just get the EZ pass as it was to pay the ticket. The EZ pass worked out really nice.

Might be something to look into.

Yep, ezpay and it won't happen again.

You are doing it all wrong, if you are going to sneak off the Pa turnpike,... heading east, there is a a maintenance road about 2 miles before the Cranberry interchange. It dumps you out onto Powell rd. Back in my tweens I had hundreds of those little tickets in my glovebox , and I never got caught. It used to save me $1.25, and got me home 10 minutes earlier. Ah the good old days. I would not dare try it today.
I am assuming this all happened in Cranberry? I grew up there. They changed the interchange all around to try to alleviate some of the traffic problems on Route #19, and #228. I thought that the toll booths were past the entrance onto 79. Not sure how this happened, but I will agree that it is somewhat confusing there.
They were supposed to drop the tolls on the Turnpike back in the 60's. They have gotten rediculously expensive instead. Going through there with a trailer with the race car on back used to burn my biscuts. It cost me something like $12.50 to travel the 15 mile stretch back home from Beaver Run.

targa911S 10-13-2012 05:10 AM

Fred...warrendale....they want $60.50 from me that's about what I made yesterday..slow day.

john70t 10-13-2012 06:24 AM

When you see the knot in the big oak tree, pull over and talk to Fred on the donkey.
He will light a signal fire, then old Donna will bring the toll receipt down the hill.

It sez so, right there in Chapter 87593-tb-385b of the city charter.

BernieP 10-13-2012 06:37 AM

Yes that area around Cranberry-Wexford is confusing as hell. Very easy to do what you did. EZ pass if you're going to travel much. I would fight the fine just because, what have you got to lose?

I came on one of those as well in northern OKC. No change. I waved a bill at the camera & drove on. Hertz never sent me an invoice.
