Police: Body of Autumn Pasquale found in recycling container in Clayton

After an exhaustive two-day search to find Autumn Pasquale, authorities announced early Tuesday morning that a body has been found in a recycling container on East Clayton Avenue in Clayton.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said, in a statement released at 1:27 a.m. Tuesday, that a female's body was found in a container around 10 p.m. that "has been preliminary determined to be that of 12-year-old Autumn Pasquale" who went missing from her home Saturday afternoon.
The Prosecutor's Office said it would not release the exact location of where the body was found, but said only that it was in Clayton. Members of Autumn's family have been notified, police said.

"This is a very sad day for the Pasquale family," said Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton, whose office led the search with the assistance of nearly 20 other law enforcement agencies. "Our hearts go out to the family and to all the residents of Clayton who stood together in support of this young girl."

Just hours earlier, hundreds of community members gathered on the front lawn of the Clayton Municipal Building in a candlelight vigil to pray for her safe return. She was to turn 13 next week.

"Say your prayers for Autumn and all the children who are lost and can't find their way home," her uncle Paul Spadafora said over shouts in the crowd yelling for Autumn to follow the candle light to Clayton and "come home!"

During a press conference Monday afternoon, Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton, flanked by Autumn’s parents Anthony Pasquale and Jennifer Cornwell, announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to Autumn — $5,000 from the family and a matching amount from the prosecutor’s office.

It was not immediately clear how authorities found the body, or if the reward helped in the discovery. Check back on nj.com for more updates as they're made available.

The Clayton Middle School student was last seen around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. She left her home on her white Odyssey BMX bike headed for a friend’s house. She was expected home at 8 p.m.

Now this just came out. I'm raging over this.

Police: two teenage boys charged Autumn Pasquale's murder.

Two teenage brothers, ages 15 and 17, have been charged with murdering Clayton girl Autumn Pasquale, whose body was found in a recycling container outside a house on East Clayton Avenue.

The boys, whose name were not released by the Gloucester County's Prosecutor's Office, have been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, disposing of a body, tampering with evidence of theft. The younger boy was also charged with luring.

Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton said the teens lured the 12-year-old girl to their East Clayton Avenue home where she was killed. An autopsy conducted Tuesday morning revealed Autumn died from "blunt force trauma, consistent with strangulation," Dalton said.

Her death has been ruled a homicide.

Dalton said the boys' mother informed law enforcement about information one of her son's posed on his Facebook account. Additional information led members of the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office to where Autumn's body was found.

Dalton said that information led to a search warrant for the East Clayton Avenue home — the house next door to where her body was dumped.

Inside, police found some of Autumn's belongings including the white BMX bike she was last seen on when she left her West High Street home Saturday afternoon around 1:30 p.m.

Authorities also found other physical evidence that led to the arrest of the two juveniles.

Dalton said the two boys were accompanied by their attorney Tuesday afternoon when they turned themselves in.

"It's my hope the arrest today provides a measure of closure (for the family) that the individuals responsible for their daughter's death will be held accountable," Dalton said.

I can not even imagine how anyone could do that to any other human. I hope the boys are charged as adults.

Rick Lee 10-23-2012 01:56 PM

An unspeakable tragedy. I guess the only good that came out of this is that two murderers were caught right away and will probably not see the light of day again before they're old men, if ever. How do people turn into such monsters?

daepp 10-23-2012 01:57 PM

You never get to hear, but I would love to know what kind of upbringing those boys had and what their home-life/parents were like. I don't believe in too many bad seeds.

A crying shame it is. Prayers for the family and for the soul of little Autumn Pasquale.

Heres the poor girl. Apparently she was strangled.

It's a scary time to be a parent. I can't even imagine what that must be like.

matt f 10-23-2012 02:03 PM

Horrific.
Agree w charging both as adults.
Does NJ have death penalty?

KaptKaos 10-23-2012 02:21 PM

So disgusting and sad.

Where were the parents of those two monsters? They need to be thrown in jail too!

Jim Bremner 10-23-2012 02:24 PM

Get a rope for the two boys. Sad thing for all involved.

widgeon13 10-23-2012 02:25 PM

Just saw this in the Albany news, really terrible event. Sad that kids can do this to each other.

bivenator 10-23-2012 02:27 PM

If I read correctly, the perps put information on thier facebook page about the murders. Feel terribly for the parents.

jwhcars 10-23-2012 02:50 PM

This is so sad. What a waste of 3 lives.
Prayers to her and family.
I hope that those murders get the maximum sentence.

HardDrive 10-23-2012 02:53 PM

They killed her for her bike. I feel like I want to throw up. Dear lord......

azasadny 10-23-2012 02:55 PM

Horrible...

Seahawk 10-23-2012 03:01 PM

Vin, amidst this tragedy I can only thank you for your willingness to help, go where most of us would not, doing what most of us cannot.

My best to you.

And the family of that beautiful young woman.

syncroid 10-23-2012 03:52 PM

I'm at a loss for words. Horrible! At least the two dirt bags responsible for the crime will not have a chance to commit another like it. I feel bad for her parents.
I'm going to give my daughter an extra hug tonight when I see her. (14)

motion 10-23-2012 03:56 PM

Horrible and devastatingly sad on all levels. Vinnie, I don't know how you deal with this stuff and how you can sleep at night knowing the kind of scum you might run into tomorrow. Me, I choose to create a bubble for my family so we are hopefully never exposed to horrors like this. I know it can happen to anyone at any time, but there are things that can be done to lessen your chances.

Baz 10-23-2012 04:03 PM

Horrible.

Humans can be such monsters.....they really can be. :(

matthew-s 10-23-2012 04:05 PM

Unreal - I received the alert when she went missing, and then another this morning saying she was found. Very sad. Thanks for being ready to help Vin.

I assumed it was caused by a family member (statistics being what they are), the truth is even more surprising and shocking. I can't get my head around it.
