practice practice practice.....

fender bass guitar w/ practice amp

2 hours? That dude should be in a band with that much time practicing.

I have to admit I could see someone finding out after a couple hours it isn't for them, especially if they can't tell a C# from a G.

Could that ad be less specific?

targa911S 10-24-2012 09:08 AM

It "needs tuned" so that's a deal breaker....

flipper35 10-24-2012 09:48 AM

If you can find a local independent to tune it instead of a dealer, it may not be so bad.

targa911S 10-24-2012 10:03 AM

and what ever happened to the words "to be"? I hear it all the time around here...it makes me nuts!

BlueSkyJaunte 10-24-2012 10:11 AM

I, too, have bemoaned the recent loss of "to be" in modern speech/writing. I think people are just lazy.

The Verb 'To Be'

At any rate, I picked up a Fender Rumble 15 a couple of days ago. $85 + tax. Can't beat that--and it's loud enough to make my wife ask me to play the guitar through my '59 Bassman instead.

craigster59 10-24-2012 10:25 AM

Funny, I never knew you had to tune a bass.....

targa911S 10-24-2012 03:06 PM

You never heard tuna fish before? Well this would be tuna bass.

Rapewta 10-24-2012 03:42 PM

You really only need to tune a fretless once, so they say.
If you have perfect pitch then why bother with the tuning keys?

I have known people that only spent an hour on a bass and pulled off
simple 1-4-5 tunes like "Louie Louie". It can be done but nevertheless, the ad is
a kick.

targa911S 10-24-2012 04:53 PM

true fretless is much easier ... but i still tune mine. should i sell it?

If it takes an hour to learn "Louie Louie" on bass, maybe music isn't your thing.

I can't. It's not like people who play guitar or bass are rare beings. There are many millions of them. Some had natural talent and so had it easier than others. But most had to slave away for thousands of hours to get good. Hell, it takes six mos. to build up your calluses if you're just starting out.

For some people, practice seems like work. For others, it is play. The latter become musicians.

flipper35 10-25-2012 09:01 AM

Some people take to playing music like fish to leaves. If they don't have talent or passion then two hours is plenty of time to determine if they will not like it. This guy probably had neither.

Know what's great about taking up a new instrument? You get to listen to ALL of your old albums with a completely different perspective.
