Text scams to look out for
I noticed my AT&T billing was a little higher this month.
There is a $ 9.99 per month subscription added under one of my phones for something called Flycell Clubpack. Apparently it is a texting scam where they send you a text and if you don't respond 'stop', they automatically charge your cell phone carrier account. It is not limited to AT&T, other carriers do it as well. Yet another bs thing to look out for. |

How can that possibly work? Send random text = profit? It seems there's a lot of scams like this, where they charge small amounts, hoping you won't notice; the sheer volume of people who don't must be making someone millions. And why must everything be "opt-out" instead of "opt-in?" I just re-fi'd, and my all my various financial info will be sold to every ham-and-egger unless I find them all and opt-out. |
I doubt anyone would have trouble getting a reimbursement for such scams. I still can't believe they are able to do this.
I agree with widebody911 - in this day and age, there should be nothing that is "opt-out." Frustrating... -Z |
On my Virgin mobile I can bar premium SMS and MMS services via their web site for free or by dialling a set of numbers on the phone.
I'm sure you'd have a similar service with your providers. |
