I like the CFI, I think he had a smoke going early in the video.

I would also guess he is a vet that has done crazier stuff than that before.

You can tell he was an old school stick.

Very cool !

Guys, I hate to be the spoilsport here but that has to be the dumbest stunt I've seen in a helicopter. The guy on the left was smoking, I would never allow that if I was PIC. Flying down into those pine trees was really stupid. They must have forgotten they had a rather fragile tail rotor behind them. Tree limb get into it and it's a long way to the ground. Finally they should have never let those people walk up to the chopper, that guy should have walked the plane over to them. I did like his observation that the model was $800. I imagine a Robinson is around $200000. Thanks for posting this but I think it's a good example of what not to do.

It was reckless as hell, to be sure. But so many acts of greatness are:D

He mentioned the tail rotor many times as they descended and hovered around the trees.

Maybe I'm too cautious but I had 2 complete t/r failures, both at low altitude and high power settings. Both caused substantial damage to the machines but not a scratch on me. Hopefully those 2 won't have it happen.

god you guys sound old............

STAY IN YOUR ROCKING CHAIRS BY THE LIVING ROOM FIRE, but don't rock too hard as even in a rocking chair you can tip over and bonk your head.

Very Wise old motto, "pain is temporary, glory is forever"

Very cool, very fun, life is short, enjoy it to the last second........

The CFI was great...I have about an hour in a Robinson and he had that thing nuts on.

Stupid helo tricks!

Joeaksa 10-31-2012 08:21 AM

When I was flying helo's the IP had a "school area" with telephone poles sunk into the ground and only the stump showing... about 4' above the ground. He would have us hover and put the skid on the top of the stump and "dance around the pole."

When we could do that he was happy with our ability to hover.

Fixed it!

Didnt seem that crazy. It was the top of the very highest tree around. Id be glad he did it and it was my toy plane. He was pretty proud of himself tho. Probably hadnt had a good ad hoc rescue since the Tet Offensive.
