Is really taking off here in New Zealand.

Are you guys looking forward to the movie(s)? I loved the book but not sure if I can sit through the movies. I probably will anyway.

Is this a remake or prequel or something like that?

I have the original trilogy on DVD.

J1NX3D 10-31-2012 02:23 PM

Its the Hobbit, so set before the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Schrup 10-31-2012 02:29 PM

I can't wait, I'm a huge fan. This will also be a trilogy, very exciting for me at least.

Bill Douglas 10-31-2012 02:29 PM

Peter Jackson sure has lost some weight since the Lord of the Rings.

Tervuren 10-31-2012 02:37 PM

I will probably watch it eventually, but not in theater. I like the simple story of the Hobbit, and I'm afraid the movie version is going to add all kinds of things to the story. Script writers love "character change", and will massively butcher a story to get their desired "character change".

I hated what was done to Aragorn in LOTR. Elvish armies show up when they didn't, etc...

techweenie 10-31-2012 03:06 PM

I doubt I can resist having the cash sucked out of my pocket for these. LOTR was great, IMO. The Hobbit seems to me to have been suited better to one long film or maybe two, so I'm concerned they made another trilogy, mainly because it smells of opportunism. But of course, greed is good.

HardDrive 10-31-2012 03:43 PM

I thought LOTR was excellent. THANK GOD it was not made by a US producer.

If you haven't seen it, Ralph Bakshi's animated LOTR is worth watching.
Same with his Fire and Ice.

I grew up watching the animated version of The Hobbit and reading the books as soon as I could sound out the words. I dragged my non-native-English-speaking wife to Fellowship and she fell in love with the films and story as well. I caught her spelling our kids' names out in Elvish for a needlepoint project the other day.

Hell, our daughter's middle name is Eowyn.

I'm very much looking forward to this. My only regret is that Ian Holm won't (be able to) star as Bilbo.

I'll echo HardDrive: thank GOD the first trilogy wasn't Made In America. The suck would've been audible on the other side of the planet.

Please play this on the plane when I fly to New Zealand! Heading there in February or March.

The hell you say! I'm still hoping Michael Bay will re-make these films in this lifetime. :D
