Check the breaking headlines. Valtrex and dental dam inventories are exhausted and the price is now below $20 and falling...no lines...

Supply and demand -- there is an argument that the increased prices being commanded actually will resolve the supply issue much more quickly than otherwise. See the book "Justice" by Michael Sandel -- lots of interesting points in the debate.

Having said that, it does seem pretty heartless. But then I am a bleeding heart liberal Canadian.

Funny I just heard an interview of a gas station owner near where I live... He said he would not be raising prices...saying that people are having a difficult time now and that they might remember his resistance to greed, and become long time custumers.. He did mention thatif the price he buys the product changes he would adjust his price to follow...

Im set for a few weeks...

I have 200 gal home heating oil, which I can use in my F250

A face cord of seasoned hardwood

20 Gal reg gas

25 gal of high octane..

My DD and my pickem up are both topped off...

My stove is cranking now, I bought some LED lights today to test... let the load on my generator go to running my fridge and pumps,

This seems like a good time for station owners to PR:
Set prices according to actual distribution costs, add necessary increase to maintain business costs(rent/labor/etc), and advertise such pricing rationale.

The storm will be gone in a week, the local devastation will remain for months or years, but local customers...may...remember who was the "good guy" was in times of great need.
They may remember.

A new approach.

I agree, a few gas stations and hardware stores (flexible hotwater heater lines that tore loose) hiked their prices after the Northridge Earthquake. $6 copper flexible hot water lines hiked to something like $30 each. People here definitely remembered and word got out and eventually that hardware store ran out of customers.

You never know what the right thing to do is, until you are in the boots that are on the ground. I understand the side that is sensitive to gouging. I also understand the dollars and cents side that requires a higher charge when a product is more difficult to provide, such as we are seeing in NJ. My point is that one should not be passing judgement until all the facts are known.

In my experience I try to stay out of New Jersey, Texas and California. The laws in those states are just too repressive to function.

Those who don't hike their prices will find themselves out of product and then everyone is screwed. It's not like their rent payments or utilities stop coming due because they're closed for business.

I ran out gas on the bike near Death Valley once. I paid a guy in a trailer park $40 for a 5 gal. can and I was overjoyed to pay it. Calling roadside assistance would have run me $200 and a few hours wait. The other option was to hitchike or walk 30 miles to the next open gas station in Beatty, NV. The guy who sold me the gas drove to Beatty once a week and filled up a bunch of 5 gal. cans for idiots like me. He paid $3 per gallon and I paid him $8. What's wrong with that?

Different circumstances Rick. Like comparing sub-atomic and planetary movements.
1). Small transaction. Not extremely unreasonable, given the landscape.
2). Passer-through. You'll be gone next day.
3). One time. People will live and conduct daily business in the area for a long time, and talk with neighbors going through the same thing.

(just imo)

Didn't the Administration say that $10 a gallon gas was good for the country? And you thought it would take another term for him to reach that goal.

Well, I hope they keep prices the same and then run out of gas. That'll be a good lesson to the folks who would be outraged by price being determined by supply and demand.

Weird, some see greed in selling gas but no greed by unions kicking out non-union labor. Nonunion Ala. crews turned away from Sandy recovery

....interesting.
