Can't wait to see it!

I'm keeping my expectations very low on this one. These racing movies are nearly always crap

I still remember watching that Jim Nicholl crash (and Prudhomme's reaction) shown in the trailer on Wide World of Sports:

Will definately give this movie a watch. Still have the hot wheels on my workbench in the basement.

Awesome! Cant wait to see it. I had a bunch of those too ( probably still buried in my parents yard somewhere...) Also built the model kits of both cars.

One of the guys from that era is Connie Swingle. He used to drop by the shop where I worked. He was an interesting guy. We restored a lot of his old photos and made him copies to sign to make some money.

Indeed. All forms of auto racing carry with them the chance of injury or death. The saddest sometimes being, not the actual participant but, the onlooker on the sidelines.

In 1971 we were at Lions Dragway, a late afternoon - carrying over into night time racing. Lions had a elevated walkway that went over the return road/pit area. I believe it was a funny-car owner (who's name I have forgotten) who had a truck with a ramp/incline bed that he hauled his car on. As he pulled his race car back from the end of the track with a sling, two very young children, ( possibly his family members or a team-members kids?) sat atop the cab of that truck, facing backward, watching the race car. The truck passed under the walkway - they never saw it coming. I cannot imagine the horror of the person in the towed race-car witnessing that.

We heard the call for the ambulance and then later walked over. The sight of two small tennis shoes and blood running down that inclined steel bed still haunts me.

Glen, thanks for that little bio. Coincidence: just opened the latest Hot Rod magazine yesterday, and there was a picture of Swingle and Ed Pink and a stack of 5000 bucks after he won at Fontana. Funny how sometimes things align like that.

A week and a half ago while at the SEMA show I ended up staying at the LVH (other than the small good buffet, everything else sucks major balls). Anyways, I stayed on the 14th floor, well when I decided to go dinner as I was waiting for the elevator on my floor there was one other person also waiting for the elevator, to my surprise it the "Snake". The elevator to took up enough time that we were able to have a 5 to 8 minute chat. He told me that even though he was a consultant in the movie, they still took some creative licensing and changed a few things that were not as accurate as he would of wished, but nonetheless he said it was going to be a great movie to watch. When the elevator finally arrived it was full and only one person stared and at him but didn't say anything. BTW nice guy to talk to!!!!

Thanks for the post Wolf. We will interesting to watch for sure. I grew up in the midwest where drag racing was king. Spent many a day at Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia.
