There has to be more to this story. I really don't understand why having an affair should be a reason to resign from a job, but maybe that is because I am French. Never been a problem for Francois Mitterand, or Bill Clinton for that matter. If one has an affair, the right thing to do might be to get divorced, not quit a job.

You don't have a security clearance, do you?

Financial issues are the biggest concern, but marital infidelity is another one. Petraeus actually is showing that he is a consummate, though flawed, professional. I know a CSM who served directly under him and he has nothing but respect for the man.

Rumor has it the paramour is Paula Broadwell, author of the ironically titled Patraeus biography "All IN" The Education of David Pataeus"....she's currently under FBI investigation for acccessing top secret info via Patraeus.

Ok, got it. But then, I guess a security clearance is not required to be president of the USA. Or governor of NY...

Sad when a hero's integrity is tarnished.......we need more heroes! :(

Actually, it would only be ironic if she wrote a book about the importance of fidelity in marriage, or something similar. Or one extolling the virtues of lesbianism over man-love. You get the picture.

It was a huge problem for Clinton. He was impeached because he talked about it. i agree, he should have told the hounds chasing him "It's none of your business!" but if we have a system where this kind of behavior isn't condoned, then it can't be condoned by anyone.

Hi Baz.
He is still a hero.
May i pass on a quote by George Orwell?

"They sleep soundly in their beds,
because rough men stand ready in the night,
to visit violence on those that would do them harm."

D/CIA, 4 star general Petraues continues to be a hero.

wdfifteen 11-09-2012 04:48 PM

Cute sentiment. A more realistic one for you:

"They sleep soundly in their beds,
while rough men stumble in the night,
boning their harlots, oblivious to those who would do them harm."

matt f 11-09-2012 04:53 PM

My apologies to you Wid.
I didn't realize you have served our country more than director Petraues.

They (at least POTUS) end up having de facto the highest clearance in the land. That doesn't mean that they necessarily have a high level of integrity. In fact one could argue that politics beats that out of people early on.
