The deer are clearly using a cloaking device

My bait piles are disappearing at an amazing rate, yet I have not seen one deer out of this stand. Clearly the deer in this area have been sold cloaking technology by the Romulans. This naturally makes the hunt a bit tedious. But more to the point, I find it alarming that the deer would so openly defy the Treaty of Algeron in Federation space. I am complaining to the Ungulate delegation when I return to base.

Well, if you weren't drinking in the stand, you might see them eating the bait...

A trail cam is known to penetrate the cloaking technology.

Taken a few days ago across from my house. There is a herd of 20 or more. The farmer that owns the land has loaded 1 or 2 into the back of his pickup in the last couple weeks.

I think they have a tracking device on his truck. I will walk outside and they ignore me, he comes down the road and they tend to scatter.

They know.

beginning at sun-up, send a photon torpedo over the bait at random intervals.

Perhaps because it was a different time and place (long ago in a galaxy far away - 1960's Montana), hunting deer, elk, antelope, etc. with or over any type of bait was illegal. It was also considered unsportsmanlike - I guess things have changed.

The deer have been so thick around home this year, that I'd be better off to sit at my front door than travel into the wilderness.

^^This. Here, people bait black bear with barrels (literally) of things like gummy bears or other candy. But boy are they proud when they shoot one or run it down with dogs then shoot it in a tree or culvert.

Now we have wolf season. After years of folks intentionally (and illegally) gut shooting them "'cause wolves killed my neighbors dog" or whatever, we now have a formal season. This ought to make for some real sport in hunting too.
