Fell in love with Chocaholic's truck. Sold my SC today...too old and stove up to enjoy it anymore.

I still love Porsche's and have had 20 of them from 356's a few 914's and mostly 911's and a 930. But I can't seem to stop buying and driving Unimogs! (have another on the way from Atlanta this week). And now that I am making my own biodiesel, I am getting into early Mercedes with diesel motors.

Nearly every European vintage sports car. Mostly things I can't afford.

Like this.

My favorite is the '79 Pontiac TA, had an 80 turbo TA years ago too but the big block cars are a blast. In fact I have my eye on a 76 TA right now

My first love is my 1957 BMW Isetta 300 that we have owned since 1977 and in first grade I helped my Dad work on it.

Wasn't there also an "AC Bristol" as in "AC Cobra"?

Extra points for anyone who has heard of Bristol before.

Yep, it was the AC Ace Bristol, which is what Caroll Shelby bought (minus engine) to build the Cobra. The coupe version was the AC Aceca Bristol, also a very handsome car.

Funny you should mention an Isetta, as that was the first car I ever bought. I found it in a junkyard, with engine in a box, and bought it for $25, in 1969, when I was 14. It was the "cabriolet" model.

Looked like this but red, and looking like it came from a junkyard:

My dad and I got the engine back together, redid the brake hydraulics, and got it yard driving. Never got to the body & paint, and it was traded for a Selmer soprano saxophone, since my dad and I both played sax, and one of his friends was crazy enough to trade a $700 (at the time) sax for a $75 investment.

That was my first venture into unordinary vehicles, which I still love.

Hey Dave cool story, and interesting starter car. I've never seen the cab model Isetta before. Bet you don't want to know what it would be worth now.

Cheers Richard

dafischer 11-16-2012 08:32 PM

Richard...I know what it's worth today. A Cab sold for approx. $41k at auction recently, but that horse left the barn long ago. And so did my 57 Alfa 1900C Super Sprint Superleggera Coupe for the grand sum of $1,800 in 1977, and I know what that's worth now.

No regrets, I had my fun.

I am into mechanical things that I can tinker with. Cars. Trucks. Tools. Tube amps. Lots of stuff. I think my primary interest is really just something that I can successfully work on. Lots of trucks in the past. A 65MGB come to mind. A number of old American cars. I think we are mostly the same breed.

Except for Angela. That chick has it BAD. (in a good way)

I think we all agree that she is a remarkable woman, and Steve is one heck of a lucky man. In an ideal world, Angela would write a newspaper or magazine column about life in general, and her editor would give her carte blanche to write whatever she wanted. That would be good reading. :)

I've enjoyed my Bimmers over the last few years.
I think it is fair to say Porsche (or at least the older ones) owners are in general car people.
Great company to be in!

Drdogface 11-19-2012 10:16 AM

Rod,
I think you are correct. I no longer have a P car but still enjoy cars in general. I won't be leaving the Pelican forums just cuz I'm Porsche-less...
