Planned obsolescence really pisses me off

For the last 45 minutes I have been scouring the web looking for a newer version of the firmware for my DVD Blu Ray Player. This thing is less than 2 years old and is already no longer supported by Memorex. It's model MVBD2535 - one of the 'higher end' models of its time.

What prompted this? Well, I bought the 4-disc set of Prometheus expecting to get all the goodies. I got to watch the movie and some of the special features just fine. I decide to try the online extras - bad idea. The disc dials home, checks my player's supported functionality - now when I try to play the disc I get a big, red, unfriendly error code telling me my player is out of date and I cannot watch this disc. Wait, what was I just doing? Did I imagine the movie and features?

Freaking pathetic. I remember the days where backwards compatibility was essential. I guess not so much.

Time to buy the damn 3D Blu Ray player. What's a good manufacturer who doesn't drop support for their products after a little over a year?

Check the Internets. You are not alone with problems on this disc. It is either a)an iTunes download issue for the digital download or b)firmware in the player c)Your playback software needs an update (edit: not your case but a computer playback issue with this disc as well).
