Bolt action rifles
Who here has them and what are you shooting?
|
.308 remm 700 pss 26" heavy barrel, synthetic stock shoot all day no drift
30-06 sako (early 60's) you get three shots then let it cool down or the fourth one is a flyer- love them both |
the sako gets that hot so quickly? Is it a stainless barrel?
|
Rem700 in .22-250. Great longrange varmint gun.
Rem 7000 in .30-06 Great all around big game gun British Enfield in .303...military surplus bought in early 60's by my dad used as open sighted deer rifle for 50 years |
Mauser 98K - German WW2. 7.92mm
|
I have an old Remington .22 single shot bolt action handed down from my dad to me and from his dad to him. I'm not sure what model it is, but from 100 yards I can still group within a foot circle with no scope.

Winchester Model 70 .270
Remington Model? .22cal |
the sako is very light weight gun, and by off, we are looking at a inch or so at 100yds-
the deer is still dead |
I'll second the Remington 788, a great shooting rifle that is steadily going up in value. I also own a .243, easily shoots sub MOA groups.
|
I have a Savage 93 in .17 HMR, a Marlin something or other in .22 Mag and an Armalite.
I really like Savage for the small-caliber stuff, but for larger stuff, it really varies by caliber and use what manufacturer is ideal. |
I do not own one, but if you are considering a .22 in bolt action I would look long and hard at Ruger's 77 22. Also they have 2 in pistol calibers .357 and .44, if you already have a revolver that shoots either of those.

1951 Remington 521T .22 cal.
Soon to be in better shape. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1353034531.jpg |
Had a sporterized 8mm Mauser with a zeiss scope growing up. No deer was safe. Traded it for some bike parts like an idiot.
I really think those are the standard all other bolt actions are measured against. |
the mauser action is the one to have. if anything goes wrong it's relatively safe
|
Bolt guns come in the broadest variety of calibers, action sizes, barrel weights, materials, stock designs, and sighting equipment of any given firearms genre. In light of this, your question is akin to saying you need a vehicle, and asking what vehicles we have. You need to be much more specific about its intended use.

marlin XS7VH in .308 with a nikon buckmaster scope.

Jeff is right. What are you trying to do with your rifle?
Hunt? What game and what area?Target shoot? Plinking at close range or long range stuff? Or are you just trying to figure out who here stacks the most long guns at home? ;) G |

I have two Enfields. Thought they were just junk so they sit in my closet. One is WWI era, the other WWII. Never gave it much thought to try shooting them.
|
Remington 700 in 223 for varmints... Heavy bbl. Leupold 6x24 zoom... Just of ground squirrels and other varmints.... Depends on what you are using it for like Jeff said. Still, I would go for Remington, Savage or Winnie.
