Unicycle for a kid

I think a unicycle would make a fun Christmas gift for my daughter (she's 10 - no pictures). She's very athletic, and loves bikes/skates/scooters.

I think a unicycle would make a fun, and unusual gift. She's alreay good on her stilts and slackline, if that's any indication of why I think this would be fun for her.

Anyway, do they make good gifts? Secondly, where do I find one?

Looking online has just pissed me off. I have no idea what I am looking for. I just want something basic, and likely on the small (kid) size. The ones I see online cost more than her bicycle, which makes no sense to me at all.

What's a reasonable price for a kid toy unicycle, that will fit her for a few years?

TIA

I had and rode a unicycle at that age and was in a group that had competitions and routines. Buy a schwinn unicycle, they are tough enough to handle being fallen off of numerous times like it will happen with any beggining rider. It's kinda neat that 35 years later, I can still get on one and do some tricks (ride backwards, one footed, and hop up and down) although I stay off any 6 footers at this age.

A local bicycle shop should be able to hook you up, and maybe look around at different town' adds on Craigslist

2012 Torker Unistar 20" CX Blue Unicycle 150852 New | eBay

These are decent units. The seller has higher end units as well. I purchased one from them a couple years ago and no problems.

Some good advice already posted.
As mentioned a 20" wheel would be a good size for tricks and learning to ride.
I had quite a few of them and am down to one 24" wheel.
If you buy one new ask them for a second saddle cause you will need one after the first gets beat on from dropping and falling.
You never forget how to ride one!
I asked for one when I was 13 and still have it today.

Not sure what kind to buy - but you really should!

Unis are cool. Here's a coworker's kid (2 time uni trials world champion)...

My parents got me one as a Christmas present when I was a kid. If you get one, try to find one that comes with (or just fabricate yourself) training poles. They allow the rider to have some support while learning to ride it. It is great fun to ride, even today :)

i had one in college. learning to ride one beats the bejeezus out of the nose of the seat. you tend to fall forward and the nose takes the brunt of the hit. find one with a burly seat. unicycle seats are more like saddles or cradles versus the standard bike seat you typically see. i'm not sure they are interchangable.

i practiced in my dorm hallway where i could put my hands out and balance myself. i never did master it. i think i drank too much :D
