Well done COTA!
The fan areas still need some finishing but the track is fantastic. Turn 1 is brilliant!

Turn 1 is like a combination of T1 at Laguna Seca (hairpin) and going into the corkscrew. You are going uphill and right about the breaking point it breaks over a little flatter about the point where you need to start turning. Pretty sure those guys are staring at blue sky when they are starting to turn left. Lots of drivers locking the breaks there today trying to figure out the breaking point.
The esses are insanely fast. First two laps you could see a few brake lights, then they figured out you didnt need to break in the esses. Great day, glad we pulled it off. I live here and with all the back and forth, a few months ago I would have laid odds it would never happen. They have been working 24/7 for months to get it done. well done. |
Sorry, but that's turn two at Laguna Seca......But I know what you're talking about!

I drove in from Houston. We're staying in Bastrop. I'm loving it, bit I have only seen my end of the track which is turn none. I have a view of the track from turn six through turn twelve. I hope Bernie makes enough money and keeps coming back.
I am already looking forward to next year. I haven't been into Austin. If like to have checked out Fan Fest, but didn't want to drive the thirty miles and then have to deal with crowds and traffic. |
Are there any camping or RV areas at the track? Glad to see the weekend working out so well.

Masraum did it right, approaching from the east, or south, was the only way to avoid the masses. It's easy from Bastrop, just take 71 west to 21, turn left, then right on either FM 535 (PEARCE LN) or FM 812. If it's backed up on 812, take a right on Mesa then left on Jacobson. If you take Pearce and it's backed up, then left on Linden and right on Fagerquist. From there Elroy road is accessible. If 71 west is open to Wolf Lane, take it south to Pearce and follow the aforementioned directions following Linden. I expect developers to make many improvements to the areas south and east of the track in the coming year(s). Austin has already annexed the track, but they didn't pick up all the unincorporated territory for good reason. It's not a pretty sight to see. However, approaching from those directions is a lot less hassle. Most every thing east and south of the track is rural. |
Getting in and out was great except of course for Sun afternoon when all 117,469 of us were trying to leave at the same time. At some point a bunch of cars started cutting off the buses so we didn't move for about 45 mins, but when some of the help figured that out, they started redirecting the cars, forcing them out another exit and we started moving. Even with that little snag, it still wasn't as bad as some concerts that I've been to.
