Another roadie post....WTB Campy 8 speed stuff

My Somec came with Campy Athena from the early 80s. Shifters mounted on the down tube.

Early Campy SIS (Index) shifting sucked Donkey balls so the bike got an upgrade to Dura Ace brakehandle shifters and rear derailleur....took Campy awhile to figure it out....

Anyways, looking to buy a later model Campy brakehandle 8 speed shifter assembly....anyone have anything laying around from an upgrade to 9-10-11 speeds?

Can offer up the Dura Ace for trade or sale....

Good luck Joebob,

I think 8 speed was around for it's fifteen minutes of fame and then 9 speed had a real good run until they figured out how to wedge 10 in. I love the campy stuff, it was stunningly beautiful in the early years; not so much anymore, but still a sweet group set.

Best,
Rutager

Have some 9 spd stuff, and the index cogs can be swapped out...

You'll need campy rear mech and spacers for the cassette.

No not DA 8 spd with Campy shifters. You might have a better chance if you change the cassette.

Joe Bob 11-19-2012 04:41 PM

Yep....looks like that is correct. Going to look at some 9 speed stuff. Cross checking 8 and 9 speed chains....they are the same width, it only gets a diff chain when 10 speed comes along.

A Campy 9 speed derailleur may work if I can't find a cheap 8 speed.....

Those 8 spd DA shifers work well and are bullet proof, and I mean bullet proof. thanks to campy(because they do no work), I switched to 8 spd DA. I have crashed and ridden in the rain with them all day long without ever cleaning them only to discovered that they still work extremely well.

Nah, on both systems the big lever gets you a bigger cog, and the small lever a smaller cog...both front and rear. Yeah, they're in different places, but the idea is the same. I was all Campy on several bikes til I was gifted a D/A bike, and now can appreciate both. D/A shifts like a BMW, Campy like a Ferrari.

Jumping from one bike to another...it's annoying when you have to think about which paddle to use when standing/pounding up a hill and shifting.

Not as annoying as a 901 versus 915 tranny but you might get the drift....

No, thanks Mike. I switched to 9 spd on both my bikes and have a SRAM 10 spd on the new bike. I can't tell you how it works yet because I have had it for over 8 months and can't get myself to put it together and ride it. Time is not on my side. I thought 10 speed was nuts, but now 11?

I have a new 8-9 speed derailleur, if you need it.

Joe Bob 11-23-2012 04:20 PM

eBay Special.....$30 delivered, 8 speed rear derailleur and a bonus front changer....

Anyone want it? Free pickup or 5 bucks for parcel post....

Just waiting on the shifters.....some assembly.....back on the road.....:D

The freebie FD looks to be spoken for...

jyl 11-23-2012 07:22 PM

I could use the FD, if you still have it. Shifters going out tomorrow, I'm sorry it has taken me so long.

Thank you John L for the handles. They arrived and are in good shape and a VERY fair price.....installed and I took it on a 20 mile ride today. Nice to be able to not have to think the opposite way and the shifting was intuitive.

Now...to find someone that has NLA parts for the Nike cycle shoe. The hard plastic ratchet adjuster is wearing out. Nike didn't keep any spares after they discontinued cycle shoe sales. Their response?

Buy a new pair....yeah right....$200 for a decent pair......

Anyone know of a source for spare parts I would appreciate it.....or NOS Nike shoes in size 41.
