Can you work with somone watching you?

Me, can't do it. I like to have 100 %concentration on what I am doing, and even someone just watching over me without talking, makes me uneasy. I feel like I can never really get in the groove until I am alone with my thoughts. How about you guys ?

So, you aren't a rock star. Me neither but have done a number of things that were very visable. Breathe, relax, focus & just do it. Life is like being in a movie that every one sees anyhow. Enjoy your day.

Depends on the task but generally no.

madmmac 11-27-2012 10:09 AM

Bending over a car fender working on an engine with a guy standing behind me would make me feel uneasy also.

Otherwise, I have no problem. I used to have to train people on multiple types of specialized industrial equipment including cranes.

That's what ended my porn career. That, and a few other shortcomings.

Ha!

I don't mind being watched while I work, but I go ape**** if someone is reading over my shoulder.

LakeCleElum 11-27-2012 10:33 AM

I don't watch any more....Women at work claimed I was really peering down their Cleavage.......

M.D. Holloway 11-27-2012 10:33 AM

Yup, always. My best work has been done that way. I'm an attention whore though so it works for me.

lane912 11-27-2012 10:40 AM

yes not a problem-

Baz 11-27-2012 10:51 AM

I'm with you Fred.

I actually go out of my way to avoid working until the distraction is resolved.

In some cases I actually tell the offender what is happening..."No offense....but I can focus better when I work without distraction."

Take your chit-chat somewhere else....please. I have work to do. :)

look 171 11-27-2012 11:01 AM

No problem. sometimes I actually like it if the topic is interesting.

URY914 11-27-2012 11:15 AM

Only when it is my wife watching.

Tervuren 11-27-2012 11:30 AM

Depends on what is going on. If you're blocking my light - MOVE.(I'll tel yah).

Providing they aren't in the space I need to be using, I'm ok. If they are talking with subjects that change to fast, I'll tell them I'm trying to focus. I can balance at least two things, three is out, so if I'm thinking about what they last said, working on something, and they are talking about something new - that is three.

When I'm racing a kart, I can concentrate on driving, and listening to some one talking with a radio to my helmet, but if I add a third element of me talking, its over.

herr_oberst 11-27-2012 11:48 AM

Depends on the task. Just yesterday my GF asked me to see if I could figure out how to put a lightbulb into one of those cheap Lowes fixtures that don't really have any obvious means to get the lens off. She sat there and watched me kind of fumble around for a couple of minutes; I couldn't think. I asked her very nicely if she didn't mind leaving me alone for a couple of minutes, and the minute I was alone I figured it out.
However, if I have a pretty good idea of what I'm doing, I don't care who's in the room.

Joeaksa 11-27-2012 12:06 PM

Do it all the time, does not bother me in the least...

BE911SC 11-27-2012 12:30 PM

I do so every day I am at work. Bring it on. You may be as good as me but you'll have to work really hard to be better. I relish the chance to show my co-workers how it's done and I disdain those who are lazy, sloppy and who do not try.

ckissick 11-27-2012 12:37 PM

I've always wondered how a pro golfer can do what they do with all those people watching.

widgeon13 11-27-2012 12:54 PM

I can do it if the people watching keep their mouths shut.

svandamme 11-27-2012 01:00 PM

doesn't bother me.. People generally get a headache trying to follow what i'm doing , i tend to multitask like a mofo... i also freak people out when come stand next to me to say something, and and turn my head, look at them to them while i keep typing, especially if it's some kind of commandline stuff where i even fire off commands in dos..

72doug2,2S 11-27-2012 01:34 PM

Depends on whether they keep their mouth shut.
