What the....?!? Help identify this military vehicle?

This was recently demilitarized and being sold as surplus at a base in Virginia (anyone want me to bid? :D)

What is it??

It has a Volkswagen 4 cylinder engine, midship transverse, missing the transmission (or generator?)

It appears to have electric motors at each wheel hub

Dodge Dakota Club Cab center section, custom composite front/rear sections

Odd "bed" with slanted top...transport soldiers laying down?

Very weird:

Looks to me like the guys in the motorpool had to much time on their hands, and cobbled it together.

Prototype sample to bid for a contract?

foxpaws 11-27-2012 02:14 PM

Could be a prototype - it looks like the right width for the Osprey.

We built one that was for the Osprey - lots of weird 'musts'....

It is called the Jamma - here it is at SEMA a couple of years ago

and here it is being tested

And here it is in the V-22

I doubt they would have fabricated the nose and bed sections that well if that was the case. But who knows?

My guess as well....

Looks like a small VW diesel. Ive seen a post on pirate4x4 that sells something like that but different body.

Rear bed has area to stand while firing as yet to be mounted gun.
Poor man's Lambo military SUV?

It's not a diesel (see the throttle plate / springs?), but maybe....

Odd axles and hubs. Electric motors?
Nowhere for a transaxle to drive the wheels.... the fuel cell is too close to the flywheel and all of it is way forward of the rear axles.

My ideal carpool scenario for the morning commute. :D

Nothing to add, I just had to check in and see what vehicle had kasien, of all people, baffled. That, and I was hoping for cool Pinzgauer pics.

Oh I thought that was a Bosch injection pump but now I also think I see plug wires.

It's the escape capsule from the presidential limo. You cant tell from the outside but when the Prez gets in the limo he actually sit in this. If something goes wrong he pushes a button that jettisons the front end and trunk of the limo. He then drives himself to safety. The military bought it at an MI-6 auction. It was once used by 007.

Wow, I think those taillights are out of a dodge dakota pickup... looks like some of the guys on base had too much time in the machine shop:)

vash 11-27-2012 03:29 PM

if that is a military vehicle..it should come with a white flag flying..what a turd.

Probablly something a vendor cobbled together when the Army was thinking of going "green" - environment friendly - maybe for FCS Future Combat Systems [Failed] initiative ... definitely nothing in the current inventory.

BReif61 11-28-2012 03:35 AM

Failed chassis tech testbed is my guess. But what a nightmare that thing appears to be.
