Seriously though, you can't go wrong with a Colt. They are what everyone else wishes they were. I'm building a 20" A2 AR right now because I couldn't find a colt in that config.

In the county where I live, Cook, Colt AR15's are banned. The ban is rarely if ever enforced. But Rock River LAR15's are completely legal. I feel so much safer.

If money were no object (I win tonight's Powerball), I'd get an LMT and a SIG 551.

There have been batches of Colts with poor forging (surface quality), but really, if you ever built an AR you'd wonder why all the hype over colts. The platform is so simple there isn't any reason to over pay for a Colt. I live in Kendall and can have a Colt...never felt the need to have one when I can built one better. :)

That's hardly an AR, Rick...just caliber similarity :)

Ok, then I'll stick with LMT.

Funny, I only hear Colt owners say this. :D

Technically speaking no one makes an AR15 but Colt. But that's splitting hairs. I was recently told by a local gun store that you cannot mix uppers and lowers when it comes to RRA stuff. I know this to not be true. I built a Spike's lower/RRA upper a couple years ago and it turned out fine.

My latest build, All Rock River, just waiting on the barrel. Only problem is, it is on indefinite back order. Placed order in July, no barrel in sight.

What freefloat handguard is that? and does it take a QD post for a bipod?

The Colt is cool but there are also some local options. Aero Precision & Mega Machine make upper & lower receivers, Olympic Arms builds completes. All of them work well so go for what talks to you & leaves budget for ammo.
The Sigs are nice, a little heavier as there are piston not direct impingement. 556 uses AR magazines the 551 doesn't.

It's a Hogue "over molded" in mid length. Not sure.
