Question for carpet experts

I have a simple question. My wife has decreed that we shall have new carpet and it shall be so. The contract is signed and the carpet has been chosen, the date is set.

My question concerns a certain large very object in my home office. Obviously it needs to be moved out of the way for the carpet guys. The thing does have steel wheels but it does not roll easily.

Does it really need to be moved completely out of the room while they carpet the entire room? I know that rooms have been carpeted before in this world that have a safe sized object in them. This is not the first time ever. How is it usually done with a heavy assed object in the way? Carpeting around it is not an option.

The hallway just outside the home office now has new wood flooring that must not be damaged rolling it out of the way.

So the real question is: How do I get the carpet layers to carpet an entire room while it has a heavy object in the room? What are the options?

If it rolls and can be moved then move it.

If you think about it at some point the object will need to be lifted to get the new carpet/padding under it.

Lay down a layer of cardboard or even a strip of the old carpet in the hallway to protect the floor.

They also have to be able to properly stretch the carpet. Can't have anything sittin' on it.

The will only move the furniture. No electronics, pianos or safe like objects.

ouch..ok. lift with the knees buddy.

i would move it. i had to move two gun safes for my mom. it was brutal. we put them in the kitchen where there was no planned carpeting. i think it took six of us.

good luck.

Put some plywood over the wood floors and move it.
