That's pretty clear. Unless there is a flag station that wasn't seen, the pass on the Toro Rosso was under yellow and the other two were not. Presumably the FIA has the telemetry data and that correlates with the lights. Interesting system with the dash lights as well.

For those that didn't watch the whole thing, there was clarification on the lights:

flashing yellow - yellow flag
solid yellow - red/yellow flag (track conditions)

Of course if someone went through all the races with this type of scrutiny no doubt there would be other "interesting" incidents. This is one part of racing that veers into gymnastics.

My take on the "F1 favors Ferrari" controversy is that if that were true, than the penalty would have happened instantly. As it was, word came from on high after the initial video was shown that Vettel was OK, no penalty. All you who think that Jean Todt favors his old team have to know that he could have immediately used that light as an excuse to bring the RB in.

(But the solid yellow light denoting track conditions......huh? I'd never heard that one before.)

In my opinion, the race is over, the champion has been crowned;
As an admirer of what Fred did with that diabolical Ferrari this year, I would hate for him to gain a championship with this sort of after-the-facts contretemps', much as I would hate for Vettel, a man whom I have not warmed up to, (amazing natural talent notwithstanding), to lose a championship in this fashion.

Hydrocket 11-29-2012 05:57 PM

Priot to Todt being there, the FIA always favored Ferrari....this isn't really anything new.

ZOA NOM 11-29-2012 06:41 PM

Yeah, the whole thing smacks of sour grapes. Alonso could have silenced everyone by winning the race.

OMG that's great!!

yellowperil 11-30-2012 01:04 PM

I'm guessing, that had this controvercy involved McLaren/Hamilton the FIA would have found against them and would have disqualified Hamilton for illegal passing or fined them an over- the- top $500,000.00 or so. They seem to always come down hard on McLaren, who I believe is the last of the fair team owner.

However I am glad nothing further was done to ANY team as the race was over and done., the two prima donnas involved will never have the class showed by Raikkonen this year. IMO. Bring on next year!

cairns 11-30-2012 01:07 PM

Leave me alone. I know what I'm doing.

yellowperil 11-30-2012 01:08 PM

Should have spelled it " controversy" which is more correct.

yellowperil 11-30-2012 01:22 PM

Sorry (this is my last correction) meant to say $500 million like the $200 million they were fined for having Alonso part of their team a few years back.

tevake 11-30-2012 01:31 PM

Sorry Yellowperil, another correction. The fine was $100mil. as I remember it. But I absolutely agree with you that the FIA has been exceptionally harsh in dealing with Mclaren. And not very even handed in managing the series!

I'm glad that there is no change in the outcome of the race!!

Cheers Richard

Right, I shoulda just said alot of money., I

Shocked at the Alonso bashing. I think its too easily forgotten how many times Red Bull has been caught cheating, or at the very least, been made to change a car that was too liberal with the rules.

And, if anyone cares to revisit the season, I believe that both Alonso and Vettel had two DNF's. Red Bull's were failures. Ferrari's were crashes where Alonso was not at fault - not even remotely. In other words, Red Bull's DNF's were self inflicted. Alonso should be the champion.

I only saw one of Ferrari's crashes, and I'd agree, Alonso had nothing to do with it, haven't seen the other.

As for Red Bull cheating, this is a Porsche forum...go look at a 935 and what it did with the rule book. Playing with the wording I'm ok with. The FIA then decides to change the wording, or how it is interpreted, if the FIA wants to do that, fine as well..

Jeff Higgins 12-03-2012 11:08 AM

FIA has now announced there was indeed a marshal waving a green flag on the wall before the pass in question. As I mentioned earlier after viewing Kang's video and the youtube video with no telelmetry, he was shown quite clearly. You simply cannot miss the marshal with the flag when the telemetry is removed. Much ado about nothing...

Alonso f@#king rocks! i don't know him personally but he is fun to watch and i doubt there are few here that can drive a go kart as good as he can.....
pure driver

Ferrari would do better to give him a faster car

Ferrari gave him a fantastic car. Best car on the grid at times depending on what was/wasn't allowed on the other team's cars. Trouble is, it had a new suspension setup, and the DRIVER/ENGINEER relationship had a hard time pulling off correct setups to go with the suspension. Driver input is critical when it comes to getting the suspension to handle right. Ferrari made a lot of gaffes, it wasn't the fault of the car.

I don't like Alonso because of who he is as a person, and frankly, that is true of several others on the F1 grid. I prefer a driver that can keep a marriage together. That is quite the accomplishment IMO if you're a F1 champion, and those guys get my respect. SmileWavy
