'63 tr3 b
Saw this today. All the parts are around, but it's been sitting for decades. It's a little rough and there's some surface rust, but nothing all the way through.
Someone saw it recently and offered him $1,800 he turned it down. I told him if he didn't fix it up I might be interested in it for $3k. A well sorted TR3 should be a 30K car? Your thoughts? ![]() ![]()

It will cut down your available time to post on PPOT & PARF. You up to that challenge?

I'm mighty good at beginnings, it's the finishing that gives me trouble.

You just need to keep receiving motivational inputs throughout the project. Here's one to start you off.

Real elemental sports car. I have always liked them, never owned one, but I have driven a few. Fun on a nice day.

It's about $27,000 away from being a $30,000 sports car. Plus labour.

Frame and body parts are the most important things to look for on a TR3. If it is all there, and not half rotted away, I'd buy it.

I've always wanted one but still havent finished my MGB project so it's going to be a while. Like mentioned frame is key on that car.

![]() My Dad and mom had one of these as thier first car (together) back in the mid-60s, and I asked Dad if he ever would want another one. He said he would love to drive one again, but in reality, the car was unreliable, cold, too small, too loud, and delicate. I think all of the problems my Dad mentioned are true, but the visceral experience of a pretty girl in the passenger seat on a sunny, Summer day with a picnic at the lake waiting to happen.........It's worth it ! |

They're not beautiful, they aren't fast, they are noisy, they're windy, but for some reason my '59 TR3 was my favorite car. I had it while in college, and I have to say mine ran like a top and was very reliable. Maybe mine was the exception. See my comment in the thread about the most fun car to drive at highway speeds.

I'll test drive and store if needed.

Lead to gold? I am not familiar with this saying.
On the whole it seems so basic, less daunting than more modern restorations, but my naivety is surely weighing in.

Gold is greater than lead.
