Huge mouse or small rat?
I thought I had the squirrel problem fixed in the attic, yet there were still scratching noises once in a while. I set some rat traps, and voila.
Is this a large mouse, or a small rat? I'm thinking mouse based on the small feet and head shape. Keep in mind this is a rat trap, not a mouse trap...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1354555039.jpg |
mouse.
man that trap blasted him! |
Thanks Vash! I purposely didn't take a picture of the other side, as it was a bit rough. My sister (she had a pet rat when she was a kid) also confirmed it is a mouse.
|
do you keep re-using the traps? my wife grosses out that i can touch a bloody, and gutty (<-not so sure this is a legit word) trap and reset it.

Where there is one there are many...

Mouse, in the past I have cought a bunch of them using that style trap with peanut butter as bait. Now we have a cat and I haven't seen a mouse in years.
|
My wife found an old trap with a mouse when she got out the Christmas decorations. She had my daughters (11 & 13) get it out from the corner and throw it away. They both thought it was cute.
That reminds me of a pet guinea pig that died (never get one) right after a snow storm. My daughters wanted me to bury it, but didn't feel like shoveling a foot of snow and a foot of frozen dirt. I put the shoe box in the shed and promptly forgot about it. Well, my daughters found it when they went to get the cushions for the outdoor furniture several months later. I don't think they will ever forget what they saw. |
Mouse. I have killed many. The little bastages get in my garage, attic, finished basement, and pantry. I always use those traps (the mouse kind) baited with peanutbutter and then toss the whole thing. My neighbor told me I should use decon. "They eat it and go outside to die", he said. Now my garage reeks of dead critter. Never again...

One winter when I was a kid the basement of our old farmhouse developed an infestation of mice. My next-oldest sister and I tag-teamed trapping them. We got a nickel per mouse; have forgotten how many we caught, likely 30-some.
There were lots of cats around but they were all outdoor ones (didn't know there were any other kind). And of course we re-used the traps. Jim |
Hell, around here, that's not even a big mouse. Our rats get traps like that caught on their lower lip and just run off.
|
Mouse and you have at least a dozen of them... trust me!
|
Yeah, I know you guys are correct about several shacking up in my house... I suppose getting rid of these guys will be my mission before Christmas!
The funny thing is, is that my garage that houses the Porsches and other toys we care about has NO mice at all. I keep the entire building spotless and sealed up. I suppose a house originally built in the 30's kind of comes with the mice, though. |

Get the sticky traps. The young mice don't weigh enough to set off the spring traps. Put a little dab of peanut butter in the middle.

Choot 'em

I don't think I'd @#$% with mice that walk on the ceiling.

I want to know how he got the insulation to stay up there.......

I don't know WTF is going on with my pictures lol :) I posted them with my iPad, and they show up correctly on it when viewed on the thread... weird...

I worked my way through college (1980s) in an old hardware store infested with mice and occasional roof rats. We'd catch the rats in live cage traps and then dump them into a garbage can filled half-full of water. Those rats were mean SOBs. We would let the mice go in front of the paint store three doors up and the paint store owner later came in and bought mouse traps! Oh the laffs we had.

I catch a lot of mice in the barn 20-30 + dispite having two full time mousers.
They are lazy and old http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1354733779.jpg These are Corn fed Indiana mice caught by a friend. They look like small dogs. Dam ! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1354734154.jpg |
You have more than one. Keep the traps baited.
We have rats (big ones) that are fence runners and tree climbers. My dog identifies the tree with the rat. I have a crossman pump with a laser. Sometimes the rat doesn't even hit the ground before the dog snatches it as it is falling. Don't make the same mistake I made years ago with those critters in the attic... I used decon and got a rat that went down the wall and died. Stunk up the house for a week until it dried up. I am not big on killing stuff but mice and rats cause a lot of damage. They gotta go! |
It's been awhile since my last update... I just caught this little guy this morning. I know there is at least one more. These things sure make a lot of noise!
