Bob Costas gun control comments. No thread yet?

Bob Costas advocates for gun control in

"What I believe is, if he didn't possess/own a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today." WTF? OJ didn't need a gun.

A lot of talk about his comments today around the water cooler at my office and on talk radio. I used to be natural on the guy, now not so much.

Couldn't care less. I don't watch sports and wouldn't recognize Costas if he knocked on my door. His opinions on guns mean nothing.

Popped up here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/721805-our-hip-hop-culture-our-gun-culture.html

Why is it that our media talking heads think that their opinion matters? I could care less what Bob Costas has to say about gun control, and his opinion carries about as much weight as the average Joe on the street. Probably less because he lives in the bubble that forms around the rich and famous, through which reality cannot penetrate. If a professional athlete with everything to lose is crazy enough to commit this crime, what makes him think not having a gun would have changed anything? Last time I checked knives are still pretty sharp, especially in the hands of someone with his physical ability. Now STFU and get back to talking about football.

That's just one football player.

If we banned airplanes, 9/11 would have never happened, and thousands of lives would have been saved.

Just another progressive talking head.

In 1988, Seoul Olympics, we had a couple of satellite dishes at work setup to receive the raw feed. That's the stuff getting sent up to the network, not the "pretty" packaged stuff you watch in prime time. You get to see people and sports that never make the regulate television.

You also get to see things you would rather not see. Like Bob Costas screaming and berating people because he didn't like his hair, or his makeup, or he needed water NOW! Absolutely a verbally abusive jerk. It wasn't just one shot, not just one time, it was repeated behavior. Apalling. Then as soon as he "went live" for his broad cast - all peaches and cream. Disgusting.

No one in my family will listen to Bob Costas speak, even today. When he comes on, we hit the mute button or change the channel.

Guns are banned in Japan, yet they have a higher suicide rate than the US.

How can that be? Doesn't no guns equal no suicide?

strupgolf 12-03-2012 01:26 PM

The ONLY reason Bob Costas says what he says is because he's on prime time. He's a small fish in a big pond. I could care less about him.

If we banned people, there would be a lot fewer murders. And less suicides as well. I think I need to get on television to get others to espouse my progressive thinking.

Let all those NFL thugs kill themselves off in a giant stadium. You know that Budweiser would sponsor that..

And I'd watch it while drinking a Bud.

Our passion for guns is conflicted with our undeniable love for wonderful coverage of the Olympic games...

azasadny 12-03-2012 06:22 PM

Amen to that!

Costas is an empty suit.

M.D. Holloway 12-03-2012 07:00 PM

Bob who?

URY914 12-03-2012 07:06 PM

"Please," he said. "Those who need tragedies to continually recalibrate their sense of proportion about sports would seem to have little hope of ever truly achieving perspective."

Someone translate the above statement please.
