Calling Bell, remote start question

I believe it was/is you that was involved in high end auto electronics...yes?

I'm looking to install a nice two-way remote start system in my wife's Lexus GX470 and am wondering if it's something I can handle myself. I know it require the extra module for the key prox chip, but other than that I can't imagine it's too crazy.

I used to do some install on the side a decade or two ago and have a good understanding of 12v systems but have never done a remote start so I'm not sure just how deep into the depths of the dash these things require me to go or just how accessible to wires I need are

Is there an industry install paper for each specific vehicle or range I could get my hands on?

I am doing his as one of her Christmas presents and I can easily do it in the middle of the night while she sleeps but would have a hard time sneaking her vehicle away for a whole day to an installer. Thanks in advance to anyone with info!

it's not that bad. you need to find the wire diagram for your main and accessory harness for the gx470.

u need power, ground, ignition, brake pedal switch, immobilizer lines: +,-,data, turn signals, horn...maybe some others.

u should find year specific diagrams.

Does the Lexus use a Smart Key? Not sure if equipped in 2008. If so, the key fob has to be in the car for it to crank, start, unlock steering wheel, etc. (IOW, to "talk" to the Smart Key system).

If the fob is left inside to communicate with the vehicle, I imagine a typical remote starting relay could be installed to bypass pressing the start button (if so equipped), but leaving the fob inside would also disable theft protection.

Yea, you use a spare key to over-ride that. I have zero concerns about theft.

That thing is going to be sufficiently complicated enough with the security system onboard that you will need to do some serious research.

either a spare key. or use a DEI 555/556 immobilizer bypass module. the one i got learns your real key's immobilizer signal the first time you use the real key to start the car.
