May be going to Austin for a few days in January to meet with family.

What is the closest airport? Hotel recommendations?

For flavor get a room in the old section of The Driskell. Downtown Austin Hotels | The Driskill Hotel | Historic Texas Hotels

Puts you right smack dab in the center of 6th St action.

But what do you want? Old grand texas type place (driskill)? Funky cool place? Cheap family accommodations?
