VPI Insurance is a Rip Off
I will never use VPI AGAIN!
They are a rip off. They just sent me a denial of coverage for a listed procedure on my golden. I have had my golden insured with VPI since she came to our house as a puppy. VPI makes a point in their ads that they cover cancer. The EOB shows a Spleenectomy as the primary diagnosis with her (terminal) cancer as secondary. Per their policy, spleenectomies are covered but my dogs histocytic sarcoma is not. I called them to challenge the determination. They told me that her cancer caused the enlarged spleen and hence not covered. I pointed that that THEIR EOB had the Spleenectomy as primary diagnosis and cancer as secondary. When I pressed them to honor their treatment schedule they told me they were unable to service their customer. I asked them if they were going to honor their schedule of benefits or did I need to just share their lack of good faith with potential customers. They chose to have me share my feelings. There are other insurers out there. Look carefully, for me VPI is not on my list and I will tell any one who listens why.

So which one is good? I just read the Yelp reviews and am reconsidering renewing. Anybody have any experience with TruPanion, ASPCA, and Beneful mentioned by one poster there?
I have VPI because I am hoping to avoid having to pay $6,0000 for surgery on my pet, which is what a co-worker recently went through.

Neil,
Well, be careful, I am at about $4,000 with my dogs cancer and VPI is covering NOTHING.

My lab requires an expensive medication called "Atopica" for terrible skin allergies and has had VPI since she was a pup. Just as of last month they are now refusing to pay out on our policy. They say we have maxed our lifetime benefits on this condition, however I can't find that definition in our policy.
In short, they suck on a massive scale.

Harry - put in a complaint with the Oregon DOJ - that will at least get them on record for the next person looking
The same can be done in Colorado. |

Actually, I think I have one more move, the policy lists certain hystocytic disorders as excluded but he specific diagnosis I have is not specifically listed. I will send them a letter asking why they are excluding something not specifically listed and copy the insurance board in Oregon and where they are located and see what happens.
