![]() ![]() ![]() The players are speaking up: Lundqvist, Prust, Cammalleri, Winnik weigh in on lockout talk | ProHockeyTalk Brandon Prust ✔@BrandonPrust8 Disappointed the League is talking about a lockout before we even give our @NHLPA counterproposal. Gary Bettman is a Richard head of the highest order and the sooner he is eliminated from our game the better. He isn't interested in the game or the league, his concern is keeping the owners happy so they re-elect him, I wonder what an idiot of that caliber makes per year?

Oh c'mon Finn, don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel.
Of course he's covering his own 6. That's what every politician does. He just does it in a different arena. He's no different than any other sports commissioner or, school district superintendent or, middle manager or, town mayor or,... I don't want to know what he's paid. It will just make me more angry.

It's a business. He is obligated to maximize the owners profit. Get over it.

1990: I thought I'd get more of an in-depth opinion from you on this topic.
So let me shift direction just a tad bit: Do you guys think the lockout will happen or is it all just sabre rattling?

Lock-out. It's a lock.
The owners solution is take make all teams profitable by reducing wages. The players solution is for the rich teams to pay supplement the poor teams. There is no common ground.

Hockey just doesn't have the pockets to meet the demands of the Owners and PA. They should have Brodeurs attitude...just be glad to be a part of it all.

Like the Maple Leafs need another excuse not to make the playoffs.

The game - broadly speaking - has barely recovered from the last time-out. This happens again and it will be twice as hard to bring it back. They didn't blink last time, they think they can get away with the same play again.
They both (players and owners) need to back the bus up and re-think their respective positions. Those who forget are doomed to repeat. How much BS do they both think the fans will take?

The owners got virtually everything they wanted in the last lockout. They got the cap and minimum entry salary clause. They still cannot run their business correctly. The Minnesota Wild just gave Suter and Praise 97 million dollars each! Probably no hockey this year. The Leafs will not make the Playoffs again and I will save my $2.49 a month for Leaf TV. Oh well. It is time for the "Weasel" to hit the road. His time is over.

The revenue numbers don't bear that out.

Owners can't control their own spending. Most players are overpaid.
It's a game. Billionaires fighting with Millionaires over a couple thousand dollars .... ![]() Get rid of the no-trade clause crap. If a player demands a trade and has a NTC, it should be voided. Game on for another Lockout ![]()

It's not a control of spending issue. It's market size, competitiveness, minimum salaries, and wage control. Toronto and NYR could spend up to $200M, while Florida would be at about $20M. That's not ideal.
A free for all does not benefit the majority of teams. A salary cap does. If you owned a team chances are you would want a cap. There are only about six teams that don't want a cap.

Hi Guys
I guess I'll have to get used to the fact & that the majority of you guys are right in predicting a lock-out. One of Bettman's ideas is the players should give up a %tg of their salaries (I believe the owners want the players share to go down to 46% of the revenues -- or something like that) to help the league support the financing of the so-called "small market" teams struggling at the gate. His argument doesn't have a whole hell of a lot of credence in light of the big-a$$ed contracts being handed out by some of the teams. Of course as stated by others, all of this 'hard line' approach to the players is meant to cover the backsides of some who have successfully managed to bugger things up in more than a couple of organizations. Cheers JB

Fans want so see stars and winning teams. And all teams have to spend to the floor. Why not pay star wages if you have to get to the floor anyhow?

I bet the KHL and other leagues are praying for another lock-out...then they get all star players at bargain prices.
Sid-the-IR-high-priced-bench-warmer probably wants the lockout so he has more time to decide if he wants to come back. The low market teams don't give a rip if they ruin the game and it takes another 4 years to repair the fans attitude. The high market teams (NY, Chicago, LA...) don't want a lockout. The players are not wanting to go back to the days when their pay was one step above coal miners at the company store.

Average goals per game was 5.5 in 2012. Divide by two for each team, that's 2.75. 82 games gives 225 goals per team, each team dresses roughly 25 players.
That's 9 goals per player per year.
