Got pulled over last night on !-75 in Ohio!

Coming back from Tab Tanner's birthday party in Findlay, OH last night, I was driving a little fast (85 in a 65mph zone) and an Ohio State Trooper pulled over my MazdaSpeed3. I expected the worst and I kept my hands on the wheel, with my fingers up and when the officer came up to the window I said "Officer, I have a concealed pistol license and I have a pistol with me". He asked me where the gun was and then asked me to step out of the car slowly.

He was extremely polite and then asked me if I was a veteran (I have a Persian Gulf plate) and then asked me to come back to his car and show my license and CPL. We made small talk and he was polite and told me the speed limit was 65 and I was going "much faster than that", which I was... He asked me to slow it down, drive safely and have a good evening. I thanked him and wished him well and went back to the car.

Beth and I were both very happy that I didn't get a ticket and I watched my speed carefully the rest of the way home (and today, too). After I got pulled over, I noticed cops all over the stretch of road between Perrysburg and Toledo, at least 6 patrol cars.

I've never gotten a break in Ohio before, so I was shocked (and happy).

First WOW, looks like you were extremely lucky, (and polite). I take it Ohio & Michigan are reciprocating states?

Always nice when they cut you a break. I am sure he appreciated that you were polite, and up front about the piece. He could probably tell within a few seconds that he was dealing with a down to earth good guy, who was not going to cause him any trouble.

Hey, I live about 10 miles East of Findlay, and yes, there are always a slew of staties out patroling between Findlay and Michigan line.

I think he gave you a break because you were forthcoming with information, respectful, and probably don't have a bunch of points on your license, not something they see very often with all the idiots on the road.

Cops have a hard on for any hot hatchback. He probably expected a pimple faced teen. Glad to hear you were spared!

Thanks, guys! I'll be more careful. I really do not need any tickets or points since my record is clean...

My wife and I both have the cobra IRAD 200 radar detectors. Since we both got them, neither of us have gotten tickets. I highly recommend it.

YOU GOT A WARNING IN OHIO??!! Go play the lottery this Wednesday!

I got a warning in FL earlier this year with similar circumstances. I was not carrying, but I kept my hands on wheel explained where my license was and where my registration was and that I would move slowly to get them and also added that there were no weapons in the vehicle. Got off of a 85 in a 70 and was happy about that.

I have a Valentine 1 but wasn't using it. If the LEO was that in my car, I don't think I would have gotten a warning... No new Porsche in my immediate future until our kids are through college and Beth is working full-time...

Yeah, thats a lucky break. I just drove from Columbus to Ann Arbor recently. Saw at least 4 cops between Columbus and the MI border. OH cops don't have a reputation for being lenient.

I've been pulled over probably 10 times in OH over the years.
ALWAYS keep my hands on the top of the wheel as the trooper approaches.
ALWAYS polite and respectful.
ALWAYS admit to the offense and don't try any lame excuse.
ALWAYS got a ticket. (one of those was for 63 in a 55!!! The trooper actually apologized to me for writing it!)

YOU got lucky for sure!! Be careful in OH, I always slow down 10mph when I cross from IN to OH.
