Johnny Football...another Doug Flutie?

Manziel is first freshman to win Heisman Trophy - Yahoo! Sports

Will he make it out of College let alone in the pros?

black73 12-08-2012 07:21 PM

Yes, as long as he doesn't get in a car with a drunk teammate.

weseeeee 12-08-2012 08:11 PM

He is fun to watch. I'm glad that Florida played them early in the season before Johnny Football hit his stride!

widgeon13 12-09-2012 02:46 AM

ND must be crushed.

onewhippedpuppy 12-09-2012 03:24 AM

Talented guy, but he didn't deserve the Heisman. Sad that the voters based their decision on one game and lots of hype.

ckelly78z 12-09-2012 05:41 AM

It looks like Archie Griffin's record might be in jeopardy !

I would agree.

We were kind of pulling for Manti Te'o Here in the islands, just to get a defensive player on the trophy.

Cheers Richard

The young man bested the individual and team composite records of Cam and Tebo in their respective Heisman seasons.

The kid is electric. He earned it in the SEC against the best football players at the college level.

Flutie would have had a HOF career if the NFL didn't have their collective heads up their arse wrt the "ideal" size of QB's.

Think Breeze. Manziel will, if his talent allows, slot there.

The Aggies really haven't had anything to believe in since the curse of the bonfire incident. Hope he does well.

All true, but also look at his numbers vs top 25 opponents. Significantly down compared to the unranked teams that A&M played, and the team went 2-2. It didn't hurt that A&M had one of the easiest schedules in the SEC this year either. Don't get me wrong, the kid has amazing ability. But I think he won based on beating Bama at home and flash, two things his opponents couldn't match.

widgeon13 12-09-2012 03:25 PM

I don't think the Heisman should be based on one season's performance. That is basically what happened here. We'll see how he does next year.

k9handler 12-09-2012 03:31 PM

Heisman is just a popularity contest. I was once a follower of this and other awards but it seems the system is not working. Waiting for a kicker to win it.

Heisman is just a popularity contest for QB's of winning teams that get a lot of hype

What happened to enjoying a great season? The kid is a 6'1 jitterbug with smarts and an arm who lit it up, all the numbers in the best conference in college football.

Your guys had their shots.

The Heisman won this year.

I could care less, I have nothing invested in this Heisman or any other.

The kid was a hoot to watch, had the numbers and was there when the cameras were on, period.

That's it. Argue amongst yourselves.

Baz 12-09-2012 04:33 PM

I totally agree with Paul. I think they made the best choice and to say it was because of just one game or it was a popularity contest is just out and out rubbish.

In fact.....I was concerned he wouldn't win because of anti-SEC prejudice. Especially after seeing the all the Manti award-love earlier in the week.

Truth is - an argument could be made for either of all 3 candidates to win.

But personally - I am in agreement with the decision based on all the criteria and the candidates to select from this year.

Congratulations to all the finalists. Bring on the post-season! ;)

M.D. Holloway 12-10-2012 06:51 AM

The kid has stupid loads of heart. Looking at his style, he isn't the best technically but like all great players he just won't quit. While I hope he has a great career (selfishly because I want our Son at A&M) I think he may have topped out...things happen in college.
