Wheeler Dealer 911 Targa

Two Wheeler Dealer episodes tonight on the Velocity channel. The first one was a M5, the second is titled "Revisited Porsche 911 Targa".

They need to ditch that 5 blade fan :--)

And they referred to the 2.7 as bullet-proof..

It's a repeat episode, but at the end they re-visit the car after a few years with a new owner. Edd takes it to a track.

On my cable provider - it's listed as a TAGRA....not TARGA.

Must be a typo.

Thanks for the head's up Vin!

Always love this episode, "The problem with the targa top is probably just this front seal, should be no problem to replace..."

Ah, the quintessential "famous last words."

Except that on the show it WAS an easy fix... Damn television.

Wish I could find a reman 915 tranny for $1000. Their refurb numbers are a bit misleading. As near as I could figure they had about $14K (US dollars) into that car that needed another 2-3K before I would be comfortable selling it. Did you see how filthy that engine was when they put it back in?

The car I think they did the best on from a dollars in/out standpoint was the Corvette. All Ed did was rattle can some body panels and replace the cluster.

The way I understood it, the $1000 was the "tv price" after the core swap.

I thought it was 1,500 pounds. Mike quibbled it down from 2,000 and the guy said okay because of the condition of the core.

Either way still a fictitious price. May have just called it the "we need to make it look good for the final summary screen" price. Don't get me wrong I like the show and Ed is fun to watch. However they should leave the financials off if they are not going to be truthful with costs and labor. If they factor in Ed's labor and shop costs they have never made a dime.

It drives me nuts that they don't bother to clean the parts they remove before putting them back on.

Do you cut yourself a check for your own labor? I never have.

No, but the shop that Ed is working in is not his garage attached to his house. It is obviously a shop he services cars out of. So he has rent, heat, electric, tools, supplies.......My guess is he actually has customer cars he works on too. So when he works on his project cars his is not making the $100/hr he makes working on customer cars. Hence it is costing him $100/hr to work on that stuff.

Sorry that is the accountant in me talking. If you truly were flipping cars yourself you wouldn't include your own labor. I get that.

Or it's a space bought/paid for by the TV show?

The owner of the shop is that "Paul" guy. Supposedly most of the cars on the show are still sitting on his lot looking for customers. "Paul" is the executive producer/owner of the show and the entire outfit.

Remember guys, they said at the start of the show that it'd been 4 years since they did that show/car.

There is other money supporting the show. It makes for good entertainment to say what great deals they get on parts and services but I'd bet the network adds money to keep reality, the real reality, from killing the show's appeal. I do love the show though.

maybe they were speaking literally. literally bulletproof. like:

"if someone was shooting at you, get to the rear of the car..the motor is bulletproof".

Mike did use a qualifier before the word bulletproof. I think he said, "virtually" or some similar word. Of course such qualifiers release the speaker from any and all obligation to support the claim!
